First Fix Carpentry Team Leader / Working Foreman – Loft Conversions

About Us
We are a small, family-run loft conversion company specialising in high-quality loft conversions across North London and the surrounding areas. Due to continued growth and an increasing workload, we are looking for an experienced First Fix Carpentry Team Leader to join our team on a self-employed subcontractor basis.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and carrying out all aspects of first fix carpentry associated with loft conversions. This position is suitable for an experienced carpenter who operates with their own team and is capable of delivering complete first fix packages on loft conversion projects.
Applicants must have an established team of competent carpenters/labourers available to undertake the works and meet programme requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation of floor joists and structural timberwork
- Construction of dormer structures
- Formation of roof structures and timber framing
- Installation of stud partitions and internal wall framing
- Stairwell formation and associated carpentry works
- Working from architectural drawings and structural details
- Supervising and coordinating your own carpentry team on site
- Ensuring all work is completed safely and to a high standard
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised working environment
- Assisting with programme management to ensure projects remain on schedule
Requirements
- Proven experience in loft conversions is essential
- Extensive first fix carpentry experience
- Must have an established and reliable team
- Previous experience leading and managing site-based carpentry teams
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
- Own professional tools
- Full UK driving licence
- Own vehicle/van
- Must hold valid PL insurance
- Good communication skills, reliability, and a strong work ethic
- CSCS card preferred but not essential
- Right to work in the UK

Additional Information
This position is offered on a self-employed subcontractor basis. Applicants must be CIS registered and capable of providing all necessary documentation, including proof of insurance, UTR number, and National Insurance number, prior to commencement of work.
Please note that this role is intended for subcontractors who can provide and manage their own first fix carpentry team. Applications from individual carpenters without an established team may not be suitable for this position.
