Quality Assurance Technician
Salary: £29,500 + 15% Shift Allowance
- Shifts: 11.5 hour days (5 on, 5off, 4 on, 4 off)
- Hours: 6:45am-7pm & 6:45pm to 7am

Tungsten West plc is a mining development company focussed on the restarting of the world-class Hemerdon Tungsten-Tin mine located in South Devon, UK. The Company is the 100% owner of the previously producing Hemerdon mine, which is currently the 3rd largest tungsten resource in the world. With demand for strategic metals, including tungsten and tin, increasing rapidly due to their critical use in new technology, Tungsten West is focussed on meeting this demand by restarting production at Hemerdon in the next 12 months.
Join the team working on the mine re-start, being an integral member throughout the project re-build, commissioning/ramp-up and into production.
Job purpose:
Reporting to the Chief Metallurgist, the Metallurgical Technician is responsible for undertaking day-to-day routine testwork and processing of these samples in the metallurgical laboratory. This hands-on role is suited to a fit, proactive, independent, safety-focused professional who thrives in a dynamic start-up environment.
Responsibilities:
- Actively promote and reinforce a strong safety-first and risk-aware culture
- Take regular samples of process plant streams throughout the processing facility
- Label, weigh, filter & dry samples in the metallurgical laboratory
- Wet and dry screening of samples
- Other metallurgical testwork and sample preparation as required
- Updating data into online spreadsheets
- Any other duties as reasonably requested by your manager
Skills & Qualifications:
Essentials:
- Ability to learn quickly and work independently
- High level of fitness
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Good communication skills
- Previous experience with Microsoft Excel and other Office software
- UK driver’s license
Desirable:
- Previous experience in a mine, quarry or laboratory environment
Eligibility & Physical Requirements:
- Must have the legal right to work in the UK.
- The processing plant has 6 storeys and candidates will routinely be required to walk up and down stairs and candidates. Candidates must be able to perform this aspect of the role and also be comfortable with heights.
- Must be able to work long hours (12-hour shifts) and night shift
- Must be capable of working safely in accordance with site health and safety requirements.
