As an Early Years Lead Practitioner (EYLP) at Elle’s ELC you will work closely with the staff team, and service users to ensure high quality early learning and childcare is consistent and in line with local/national policy, legislation, and guidance.
It is your responsibility to lead and demonstrate high quality practices, ensuring the individual needs of the children are being met and supported in line with the GIRFEC and other relevant guidance/policy.
You must act as a positive role model and take lead in all duties relevant to the role, always supporting and implementing the ethos of Elle’s ELC.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
· To be part of and contribute to the regular SLT meetings, sharing relevant information with the team to support continuous improvements.
· Support the team to implement nurturing and enabling environments, ensuring all service users feel included in the life of the setting - consistently supporting all staff in their professional roles.
· Continuously implement and support Elle’s ELC Visions, Values and Aims (including our mission statement) in the daily life of the setting.
· Be part of and contribute to regular improvement planning and action planning sharing responsibilities with the team.
· Supervise teamwork through allocation of tasks and provide direction, coaching and support to Early Years Practitioners and Support Workers.
· Oversee planning approaches and work closely with children aged 2-5 years and the staff team, to provide age/stage appropriate early years experiences/opportunities to support learning and development.
· Work independently as a keyworker and as part of a team (supporting the staff in their keyworker roles) to plan, implement, track, observe, record, and evaluate early learning opportunities, experiences, and achievements.
· Regularly audit/review 2-5’s learning journal profiles and personal plans to ensure information is accurate and up to date.
· Take the lead role in ensuring 2-5 personal plans are reviewed termly by parents/carers.
· Ensure all other paperwork is up to date, relevant and reviewed regularly.
· Always ensure and implement a high standard of personal care, reporting any concerns to the Service Manager.
· Support with meeting health and safety requirements, through risk assessing and implementing/following relevant health and safety procedures.
· Work in partnership with other professionals (maintaining confidentiality) to support a child centred approach and targeted support when/if required in line with the GIRFEC guidance.
· Form strong working relationships with families to develop a sound understanding of children’s needs, interests, achievements -supporting a cohesive approach to learning at nursery and home.
· Plan regular opportunities for 2-5s families to be involved in the life of the setting i.e. stay and play sessions (at your Line Manager’s discretion).
· Plan and facilitate regular opportunities for 2-5s to spend time in the local community (at your line Manager's discretion)
· In line with SSSC requirements and the child protection policy. act as a Child Protection Co-Ordinator to support with the implementation of robust safeguarding procedures ensuring the welfare of all children is paramount.
· Support with quality assurance by implementing and contributing to any required improvements indicated in audits, self- evaluation, and improvement plans.
· Contribute to and support with implementing / following Elle’s ELC policies and procedures.
· Make full use of and implement relevant legislation and guidance to support the delivery of continuous high-quality provision.
· In line with the infection control policy always ensure a high standard of cleanliness, (supporting/leading staff in their role).
· Keep up to date with and support the implementation of ever-changing early years initiatives and guidance.
· In line with the SSSC requirements, keep personal CPD updated and relevant. As a positive role model ensure you maintain passion and enthusiasm for developing in your professional role.
· Utilise available resources i.e. Care inspectorate hub, Education Scotland website, SSSC website etc. to support with providing a quality service.
· Attend and contribute to regular team meetings.
· Contribute to reports required by relevant agencies.
· Support the settings approach by continuously acting as a positive role model and take a lead in any relevant duties.
· Implement champion roles ensuring opportunities for distributive leadership within the team.
· Support staff and students during induction processes, ensuring a positive approach to learning, in line with the recruitment policy and guidance.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING:
· Working toward/ willingness to work towards BA Childhood Practice Degree
- HNC Early Education and Childcare, SVQ Level 3 Children’s Care and
Development or equivalent
- Register with the SSSC (Scottish Social Services Council) within 3 months of employment
· PVG Membership for Regulated work with Children or
willingness to obtain prior to a formal offer of employment being made.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING:
· Up to date with mandatory training including first aid, infection control, child protection, object handling, and food hygiene.
· Basic ICT skills and willingness to learn/improve.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE:
· Experience working in a team-based culture.
· Experience working with parents and children aged 2-5 years.
· Experience working with and implementing current local and national policy, guidance, and legislation.
· Recent experience working in a childcare setting.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
- Diverse experience working for a range of different services relevant to the post.
- Experience working closely with other professionals.
- Recent leadership experience
