Strawberry Island Boat Club (S.I.B.C) is a private club with a limited membership, based in Doncaster, and is a member of the Association of Waterways Cruising Clubs.
Summary
Due to retirement, we are seeking a Live in Bar Steward to move into the 3 bedroom detached cottage, being the Stewards accommodation based at Strawberry Island, and to run all aspects of the bar facility. This role is vital in ensuring exceptional guest experiences and maintaining high standards of hospitality within our environment.
Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Bar Manager (of the Management Committee), your duties will include:
- Ensure a welcoming atmosphere for members and their guests.
- Greet and assist members and guests with warmth and professionalism.
- Diesel and electric meter smart card sales, registering visiting boats.
- Bar sale of any adhoc requirements eg tickets for Social functions etc.
- Provide excellent guest services and hospitality to all visitors.
- Opening, closing, and running/working and maintaining the Bar during the hours below, ensuring smooth service delivery.
Bar Hours
Tuesday-Thursday 8.00pm – 11.30pm
Friday 7.30pm – 1.30am
Saturday 12noon – 3.30pm 7.30pm – 1.30am
Sunday 12noon – 3.30pm Closed
Monday Closed - except bank holidays open with TOIL
Additionally, and outside of bar opening hours your duties will include:
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bar area.
- Assist in inventory management and stock replenishment.
- Uphold health and safety standards at all times.
- Serving diesel to members and associated paperwork
- Managing the rota of Assistant Steward and any volunteer support provided by Bar manager
- General site security, meeting and dealing with visitors & deliveries.
- Daily patrolling the moorings checking security, water levels and wellbeing of boats.
- Attend the club for the monthly stock take by an independent stocktaker
- Order and take delivery of stock and maintain stock records
- Handling cash, Banking and subsequent takings reporting in accordance with club procedures
- Collaborate with team members to enhance guest experience.
- Handle customer inquiries and resolve issues promptly.
- Support event setups and special functions as needed.
- Any other clubhouse related duties commensurate with the role, including day to day maintenance
Essential experience and knowledge
- Proven bar work experience in a responsible, senior or managerial role, with an understanding of hospitality bar processes.
- Full UK driving licence
- Strong management skills with the ability to lead a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and demands.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to hospitality.
- A friendly, professional attitude with a passion for customer service.
Desirable experience and knowledge
- Experience in hospitality in a committee run club or similar environment, particularly via a live in role would be an advantage.
- Holding a qualification in food safety/hygiene and have a good understanding of the requirements of this, and how they fit into a wet bar environment.
