Reception Teaching Assistant
We have an exciting role start in September, working in partnership with a welcoming and supportive primary school is seeking a dedicated Reception Teaching Assistant to join their Early Years team. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with additional needs, helping them feel safe, confident, and engaged in their first years of education.
Working closely with the class teacher and wider support team, you will play a key role in supporting the child's learning, emotional development, and social interactions throughout the school day. This role is ideal for someone who is patient, nurturing, and passionate about helping young children thrive.
The Role
As a Reception Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide dedicated support to a pupil with Autism and SEMH needs within the Reception classroom.
- Build a positive and trusting relationship that promotes confidence, security, and wellbeing.
- Support the child in accessing Early Years learning activities through play-based and structured learning.
- Encourage communication, social interaction, and independence.
- Use positive behaviour strategies to support emotional regulation and engagement.
- Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement personalised support strategies.
- Assist with classroom activities and contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Support the child with daily routines, transitions, and interactions with peers.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Holds a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification, degree, or equivalent experience.
- Has experience working with young children, ideally within an Early Years or primary setting.
- Has experience supporting children with Autism, SEMH needs, or additional learning needs.
- Is patient, calm, nurturing, and able to build positive relationships.
- Understands the importance of consistency, routine, and emotional support.
- Has strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Is committed to helping every child feel valued, supported, and successful.
Experience with Early Years development, Autism support strategies, Makaton, PECS, or trauma-informed approaches would be beneficial but is not essential.
Working Hours and Details
- Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.30pm
- Term time only
- Location - Wigton
- Role Type: Full Time
- Pay Rate: £14.60 - £16.90 per hour
