ABOUT THIS ROLE
As a System Engineer you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining complex products in a dynamic and collaborative environment. We are seeking a proactive and inquisitive individual with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work across disciplines to ensure the success of our projects.
LOCATION
This role will be based in our Cambridge R&D Facility.
JOB ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Hands-On Skills: Utilise hands-on skills to build, test, and troubleshoot complex systems.-
Inquisitive and Questioning: Demonstrate curiosity and the ability to ask critical questions to ensure a deep understanding of project requirements.

Separation of Concerns and System Decomposition: Break down complex systems into manageable components, ensuring clear separation of concerns and facilitating efficient system design.

Designing Experiments to Isolate Root Cause: Develop testing strategies and protocols to isolate root causes of system issues and drive effective problem resolution.

Understanding Data: Analyse and interpret data to make informed decisions and recommendations for system improvements.

Requirements & DFMEA: Work closely with cross-functional teams to define project requirements and perform Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) to identify potential risks and weaknesses in the system.

CAD & Modelling: Utilize Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software and modelling tools to create detailed system designs and prototypes.

Simulation: Using a first principal understanding of thermal or fluid systems and tools like spreadsheets, FEA or CDF build digital models of subsystems to reduce the time from theory to a quality outcome.
REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or HND/HNC, in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related discipline

1–3+ years of hands‑on engineering experience

Building, testing, and troubleshooting physical systems

Comfortable working in a lab or workshop environment

Experience assembling prototypes or mechanical/electromechanical rigs

Experience building and testing prototypes

Proficiency with CAD tools

Exposure to FEA/CFD or first‑principles modelling

Strong analytical skills and experience designing experiments

Ability to work across mechanical, electrical, and system‑level domains

Experience with DFMEA or other structured problem‑solving methods
