Full job description

People who work for the National Trust are as varied as all the places we care for. That's why we look for staff from all backgrounds, with a variety of skills and abilities, to help the Trust’s cause. As a Communications and Marketing Officer for the Thames Valley Group, you'll be responsible for letting people know about the place, and how they can visit.

The working pattern will be alternating 3 days/ 4 days per week.

What it's like to work here:The Thames Valley is a major tourist destination, with historic houses, parks and gardens, cycling, walking and boating on the river. It’s a beautiful area in which to live and work, with numerous small villages and towns in the countryside, yet good transport links to London by train and close to the east-west M4 motorway. The nearby thriving town of Reading with its range of housing types and prices, university and sporting facilities is the most important source for local visitors coming to the National Trust properties in this area. Basildon Park is just 12 miles from Greys Court, with nearby Nuffield Place – the third in the group, forming a close triangle of properties spilling out north across the valley.

What you'll be doing:We have an annual plan covering communications and marketing, and your role from will be to achieve what’s on that plan. We have some ambitious targets that you’ll be aiming at, including reaching new and diverse audiences, so there’s room for creativity and fresh ideas.

Your day-to-day work will cover things like creating new content on our web pages, and making sure that existing information remains relevant and accurate, running social media accounts, creating promotional materials and writing and distributing press releases. The role includes regular weekend working and forms part of the Duty Management team for the group.

You'll be working closely with your colleagues on site and the Trusts regional advisers, known as consultants. You'll be part of a team making sure that we're sharing the best stories we can, with a focus on spreading the word about places to visit and letting people know about the Trust’s conservation work.

familiar and confident with various marketing techniques, including digital and social media

experienced in writing and speaking clearly

skilled in working with IT (including Microsoft Office)

good at solving problems, and able to work on your own initiative
