J McRobb High Class Family Butchers are looking for an experienced, passionate and ambitious Head Butcher to lead our team at our busy and highly regarded shop within Birkacre Garden Centre, Chorley.
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled butcher who takes real pride in their craft and wants to play a key role in the day-to-day running of a successful shop. We’re looking for someone who can lead by example, inspire the team, maintain exceptional standards and continue developing one of the finest butcher’s counters in the area.

The Role
As Head Butcher, you will be responsible for leading the butchery team while ensuring the highest standards across every aspect of the department.
Your responsibilities will include:
Leading, motivating and supporting the butchery team on a daily basis.
Organising workloads to ensure efficient production and smooth day-to-day operations.
Maintaining exceptional standards across the butcher’s counter, ensuring it remains fully stocked, visually impressive and commercially effective throughout the day.
Preparing premium meat products, including boning and processing lamb, pork and dry-aged beef primals.
Developing attractive value-added and oven-ready products.
Managing stock levels, rotation, ordering requirements and minimising waste.
Training and mentoring team members to improve skills, consistency and productivity.
Ensuring excellent customer service and confidently advising customers on products and cooking methods.
Driving sales through product knowledge, merchandising and seasonal promotions.
Maintaining the highest food safety, hygiene and HACCP standards.
Working closely with management to continually improve the department and identify new opportunities.
Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
Significant experience as a skilled butcher with excellent knife, cutting and boning skills.
Previous supervisory, senior or management experience within a butchery environment.
A natural ability to lead, motivate and develop a team.
A strong eye for presentation and creating outstanding counter displays.
Excellent organisational and stock management skills.
Commercial awareness with an understanding of driving sales and profitability.
A thorough understanding of HACCP, food safety and hygiene regulations.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
A positive, proactive attitude with high personal standards.
The ability to work under pressure while maintaining quality and attention to detail.
Fluent spoken English.
