Employee Relations Specialist Part-time, 3 days per week | West Midlands (remote with client travel) | £22,000 to £25,000 actual salary
About Fox HR
Fox HR Services is a growing HR consultancy based in Wolverhampton, supporting SMEs across the West Midlands and beyond. We work closely with business owners and leadership teams, providing practical, commercial HR advice and hands-on support across the full employment lifecycle.
We are not a call centre. We are not a box-ticking operation. Our clients are busy MDs and CEOs who need an HR partner they can trust, one who gives them straight answers, moves quickly, and makes complicated things feel manageable.
As the business grows, we are looking for someone exceptional to join us and take on a significant portion of our client delivery work, particularly across employee relations casework.
The Role
This is a hands-on, client-facing HR Consultant role. You will join us at consultant level from day one, managing a varied caseload of employee relations matters, from disciplinaries and grievances through to investigations, redundancies, and performance management, as well as providing day-to-day HR advice and support across a portfolio of SME clients.
You will represent Fox HR with our clients. That means you will be the person they call, the person they rely on, and the person they trust. We hold ourselves to a high standard, and we need someone who holds themselves to the same one.
This role is 3 days per week. We are flexible on when those hours happen. We care that the job gets done and the clients are looked after, not that you're at your desk at a specific time. You will work remotely but will travel to client sites across the West Midlands as required, sometimes at short notice.
What You Will Be Doing
- Managing a caseload of ER matters independently, including disciplinaries, grievances, investigations, redundancies, TUPE, and performance management
- Acting as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of SME clients, building strong, trusted relationships with MDs, CEOs, and senior managers
- Providing clear, pragmatic, commercially aware HR advice, verbally and in writing
- Drafting high-quality letters, outcome documents, policies, and correspondence
- Supporting clients on day-to-day HR queries and employment law questions
- Working closely with the Managing Director on complex or sensitive matters
- Contributing to the development of HR toolkits, templates, and resources for clients
What We Are Looking For
We are genuinely open on experience level. What matters more than years in the job is the quality of your thinking, the confidence of your advice, and the impression you leave with clients.
You will need:
- Solid, demonstrable experience managing ER casework independently from start to finish, some of which must have been gained within a UK employment law framework
- A strong working knowledge of UK employment law and best practice, applied in real casework situations, not just in theory
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Our clients need advice they can act on, not advice buried in caveats
- The ability to read a room. SME leaders need pragmatism as much as process, and you will know the difference
- Strong attention to detail in documentation and correspondence
- A responsive, proactive approach. Our clients notice when things go quiet, and so do we
- Flexibility and adaptability. No two days are the same, and no two clients are the same
- A genuine team ethic. We are a small business and we look after each other
- Based in the West Midlands or within easy commuting distance, with the ability to travel to client sites at short notice
- The right to work in the UK. We are not able to offer visa sponsorship.
It would be a bonus if you have:
- Experience working in an HR consultancy or multi-client environment
- CIPD qualification at Level 5 or above, though this is not a requirement if your practical experience speaks for itself
- Knowledge of SME people challenges specifically, including working with business owners who are new to formal HR processes
What We Offer
- £22,000 to £25,000 actual salary (3 days per week), equivalent to £37,000 to £42,000 FTE
- Genuine flexibility on when you work. We care that the job gets done and the hours are covered, not when you choose to do them.
- Remote working with travel to client sites across the West Midlands
- A varied, interesting caseload across a range of sectors and business sizes
- Direct access to and support from the MD, who has deep ER and employment law expertise
- A small, close-knit team that works hard, knows its stuff, and genuinely enjoys the job
- We are experts, not perfectionists. We hold ourselves to a high standard, but we are practical people who get things done.
- A business that values quality over volume, and people over process
As part of your application, we would love to hear about a complex ER case you have managed independently, what you did, and what you might do differently with hindsight.
No agencies, please.
