Job Description: Housing Officer (Housing)

Providing High-Quality Housing Services to Residents

Portsmouth City Council is seeking a Housing Officer to join the Paulsgrove Area Office. This role is key in delivering excellent housing services, supporting residents, and ensuring homes and neighbourhoods are safe, secure, and well-managed.

This position is ideal for someone practical, organised, and committed to high standards in housing management.

About the Role

As a Housing Officer, you will be responsible for supporting residents, managing housing services, and ensuring compliance with council policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

Acting as a first point of contact for residents and service users
Managing housing-related enquiries, complaints, and service requests efficiently
Conducting inspections and monitoring property conditions
Supporting tenancy management, including advice, sign-ups, and tenancy sustainment
Liaising with internal teams, contractors, and external agencies to resolve issues
Ensuring compliance with health & safety and Portsmouth City Council policies
Maintaining accurate records and completing administrative tasks as required
Supporting community engagement and initiatives within the area

Skills & Experience Essential:

Previous experience in housing or a customer-facing role
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to prioritise work and manage time effectively
Knowledge of housing legislation, policies, and tenancy management
Practical, solution-focused, and able to work under pressure
Full UK driving licence required

Desirable:

Experience working within a local authority or social housing environment
Familiarity with health and safety and risk assessment procedures
