Job Title: Technical Operations Engineer
Location: Croydon, Greater London, UK (Hybrid Working Arrangement – 4 days in office, 1 day WFH)
Reports to: Estates Manager / Senior Technical Operations Lead

Role Overview
This is a service driven and proactive, infrastructure focused role responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and continuously improving our distributed IoT and automated parking systems. The Technical Operations Engineer ensures accurate administration of our parking systems and operational efficiency across our parking estate.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in infrastructure, systems operations, IoT environments, and multi-site technical estates.
Key ResponsibilitiesIoT & Device Infrastructure Management
- Proactively maintain, monitor, and optimise IoT devices and hardware platforms (ANPR cameras, edge devices, kiosks, tablets, networking hardware).
- Manage deployment, configuration, and lifecycle management of all technical infrastructure across multiple automated parking sites.
- Ensure system health, connectivity, and performance through monitoring tools and alerting systems.
- Drive preventative maintenance strategies to minimise outages and improve estate-wide reliability.
- Continuously improve operational efficiency through automation, optimisation, and refined processes.
System Reliability, Performance & Uptime
- Monitor uptime KPIs and ensure service stability across all parking sites.
- Carry out structured root cause analysis following incidents and implement long-term fixes.
- Collaborate with DevOps and suppliers to resolve systemic technical issues.
- Support technical upgrades, deployments, migrations, and new site onboarding.
Automated Parking Systems Support
Support and maintain automated parking technology stack including:
- Parking management software
- Payment kiosks and integrated payment solutions
- Edge devices and sensor-driven systems
- Troubleshoot end-to-end system workflows (camera → network → backend → payment → reporting).
- Work with third-party vendors to optimise performance and resolve technical issues.
Operational Site Support
- Work with Tech Ops to ensure daily site operations run smoothly.
- Identify and resolve infrastructure-level inefficiencies.
- Lead technical aspects of new site rollouts and infrastructure enhancements.
- Provide mentorship to junior team members.
Asset, Inventory & Deployment Management
- Oversee device procurement and stock control.
- Supervise preparation, configuration, and deployment readiness of equipment.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of devices, spares, networking equipment, and tools.
- Coordinate logistics across internal teams, suppliers, and client sites.
- Ensure compliance with asset tracking and documentation standards.
Documentation, Compliance & Administration
- Maintain accurate configuration records, network diagrams, and onboarding documentation.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, setup guides, and troubleshooting documentation.
- Manage and prioritise tickets through service management platforms (e.g. JIRA, Zendesk, Monday.com).
- Raise and track technical change requests (e.g. OSM and ISME JIRAs).
- Ensure adherence to security policies, data protection, and device compliance standards.
Profile of the Ideal CandidateExperience
- 2+ years’ experience in IT support, infrastructure, field engineering, or technical operations.
- Proven experience managing IoT devices and distributed technology estates.
- Experience supporting automated parking, ANPR, IoT, and networking (highly desirable).
- Experience working in multi-site operational environments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects, support other departments and mentor a junior team member.
Must-Have (Core Technical)
- Strong networking knowledge (IP addressing, troubleshooting, VPNs).
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Solid Windows OS knowledge (event logs, command line, system configuration).
- Experience with remote device management tools.
- Ability to perform structured root cause analysis.
- Understanding of endpoint security and device compliance best practices.
- Strong documentation and asset management discipline.
Desirable Technical Knowledge
- ANPR systems and camera configuration.
- IP CCTV setup and troubleshooting.
- Raspberry Pi / edge device configuration.
- Experience with parking management platforms (LastPass, ScaleFusion, SIMUi, Retool etc.).
- Familiarity with cloud-hosted systems and APIs.
- Microsoft 365 administration.
- VPN configuration and secure remote connectivity.

- Minimum 2+ years relevant industry experience.
- Experience within the automated parking, smart mobility, or IoT sectors is advantageous.
- Able to commute to Croydon 4 days per week.
- Full UK driving licence (desirable if site visits required).
