Topsham Surgery is a friendly and forward thinking practice.
We are made up of 2 sites, one in Topsham and a branch site at Countess Wear.
The 2 sites are spacious with a variety of consulting and administration rooms with a pharmacy based at the Glasshouse site.
We care for over 11,900 patients across a large practice boundary from Middlemoor and St Leonards to Lympstone in the South and Aylesbeare in the East.
Summary:
We are recruiting an experienced Senior Healthcare Assistant to join our team at Topsham Surgery & Glasshouse Medical Centre.
This vacancy is for 8 hours per week - 2x 4 hour shifts to be worked on a Tuesday and Friday.
The working times on these days are flexible provided that they are within the practice's opening times. There will also be the opportunity to work optional Saturdays twice per month, which are paid at an enhanced rate.
Start date September 2026.

Duties, Skills and Responsibilities:
Working under the supervision of the Lead Nurse and in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols, the Senior Healthcare Assistant will assist the Practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of patient care and nursing procedures.
· Venepuncture
· Blood pressure monitoring
· INR point-of-care testing
· ECG recording
· Dressings and wound care
· Removal of stitches / sutures and staples
· Administration of vaccinations within scope i.e. influenza, pneumococcal, shingles, RSV
· Administration of medicines via IM inject within scope i.e. Vitamin B12
· NHS Health Checks
· Diabetic foot assessments
· Diabetic annual monitoring and lifestyle intervention
· Chronic disease reviews as delegated by the GP and Nursing team
· New patient health checks as delegated by the GP and Nursing team
· Chaperoning duties
· Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses
· Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
· Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
· Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
· Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
· Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients’ health and well-being
· Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
· Other such duties and activities as reasonably requested and delegated by members of the Practice clinical team
· Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
· Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
Pay: £13.80-£13.95 per hour

Experience:
- Phlebotomy: 1 year (required)
- Wound care: 1 year (required)
- Injection administration: 1 year (required)
- Patient assessment: 1 year (preferred)
- Patient care: 1 year (required)
- General practice: 1 year (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) (preferred)
