We are a busy, well-established accountancy practice in West Wales, with offices in Carmarthen and Newcastle Emlyn. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Accountant Manager to join our leadership team. This permanent, full-time role offers a competitive salary of up to £40,000 per annum (subject to on target earnings).
In this dual-location position, you will be based at our Newcastle Emlyn office and split your time between that office and some time at our Carmarthen office providing guidance and support at both locations.
As Accountant Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the practice, ensuring efficient workflows and high-quality client service. You will manage financial reporting (management accounts, statutory accounts, tax filings, client face to face, staff and client job reviews etc as a typical accountancy practice accountant and manager would be required to do). This is also a hands on role getting involved in the work as well as overseeing.
You will lead and develop a team of accountants, trainee accountants and support staff, acting as a senior point of contact for clients and colleagues alike. Key Responsibilities
- Practice Operations: Oversee daily accounting operations, including preparation as well as review of client management accounts, statutory accounts, VAT and tax returns, and other financial reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accountants and support staff. Coordinate workloads, set clear goals, ensure Training Record requirements are adhered to, ensure CPD requirements are adhered to, and, foster a collaborative and motivated working environment.
- Client Service: Maintain and build strong relationships with clients. Act as a senior point of contact, addressing client queries promptly and ensuring consistently high levels of service and satisfaction.
- Process & Systems: Implement and maintain efficient accounting processes and systems. Leverage software platforms (Xero, QuickBooks, Iris, Sage & Others) to streamline workflows, improve data accuracy, and support digital record-keeping and MTD.
- Financial Oversight: Monitor the practice’s financial performance, including budgeting, Monthly Sales reviews, forecasting and financial analysis, and other associated reporting to the Director providing insights that help guide the firm’s strategy.
- Compliance & Quality: Ensure the practice adheres to all professional standards, regulatory requirements and internal policies. Implement quality control procedures to maintain the highest standards of work.
Requirements
- Professional Qualification:Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with significant experience in a practice environment. Prior experience supervising or managing an accounting practice is preferred but not essential. This would be an excellent role for someone taking their first step in to mangement.
- Leadership & Communication: Proven leadership and interpersonal skills – you are an effective, proactive leader who can motivate and guide a team. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) are essential for liaising with clients, staff and senior management .
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in leading accounting software. You must have hands-on experience with Xero, QuickBooks, Iris and Sage or similar (proficiency with these platforms is required) . Advanced Excel skills and comfort with other business tools are also expected.
- Organisational Ability: Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with a proven ability to handle a busy workload across multiple locations. You must be detail-oriented and able to prioritise tasks effectively to meet deadlines. Be willing, especially at peak and busy times to work on out of normal hours to ensure the practice runs efficiently and all client and firm deadlines are met both statutory and non statutory.
- Professional Knowledge: Strong understanding of UK accounting standards, tax regulations and best practices. You must stay up to date with changes in finance and accounting legislation affecting clients.
- Driving License: Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly between the Carmarthen and Newcastle Emlyn offices (approximately 18 miles apart) are required.
- You will also be required, on occasion, to attend client offices as and when required.
