Job Summary:
We are looking to grow our team with a Quality & Packaging Technician; this is a new role which will combine seed quality control and hands-on packaging support, bringing dedicated Quality resource into the business. Responsible for all germination testing, developing and maintaining quality standards and records, and assisting with operation and upkeep of packaging machinery to ensure safe, efficient packing of product
Key responsibilities — Quality (60%)
- Plan, perform and document germination tests according to established protocols.
- Develop, review and update quality standards, SOPs and test methods for germination and seed quality.
- Maintain accurate, auditable germination and QC records including test results and batch traceability
- Report non-conformances, propose corrective actions and follow through on resolution.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, perform routine calibration and ensure supplies are stocked.
Key responsibilities — Packaging (40%)
- Operate and support packaging machines (set-up, feed, basic troubleshooting and cleaning) under supervision.
- Assist with changeovers and associated consumables on the machines (foil, ink etc)
- Perform routine maintenance checks and cleaning, escalate mechanical issues, and help coordinate repairs.
- Document packaging runs, batches etdc.
- Ensure packaging area meets quality, safety and cleanliness standards
- Warehouse support unloading bulk deliveries, getting product from and returning it to the bulk warehouse.
- Support of manual packaging where required, and including the packaging of some seasonal products, such as fruit trees that need re-packaging.
Requirements:
- RHS Level 2 or associated degree or equivalent in horticulture, seed technology, plant science or related field; OR 2–4 years’ relevant hands-on experience in seed testing/quality control.
- Practical experience in germination testing and seed quality preferred.
- Experience working with packaging machinery or manufacturing environments is highly desirable.
- Competence in Windows based IT skills
- A positive attitude, with a willingness to learn and support this small business, along with a good sense of humour
Additional Information:
Full time position on a permanent contract
Monday to Fri. 09:00 – 17:00 (37.5 hrs) or 08:00 – 16:00 as agreed with your line manager. During peak season (Jan - May) alternate Saturdays 0800-1300
There is an unpaid lunch break of 30 minutes.
Additional hrs are paid at the standard hourly rate.
Pay: £14.00-£14.50 per hour
