Barista — Part Time
Foresters Coffee, Uckfield
16–24 hours per week, with opportunities for additional shifts
About Foresters Coffee
Foresters Coffee is an independent specialty coffee shop on Uckfield High Street, open seven days a week since February 2025.
We take coffee seriously while keeping the shop friendly, relaxed and welcoming. Our coffee is ethically sourced and roasted by one of the UK's leading specialty roasters — the UK's first and only certified regenerative roastery.
Alongside our regular favourites, we offer a constantly changing selection of rare, small-batch and experimental coffees from around the world, served as espresso or brewed on V60. We also develop our own seasonal and signature drinks.
We work with professional equipment from La Marzocco, Mahlkönig and Mazzer, and our food is prepared fresh in-house.
We're also proud to be part of the local community. Foresters hosts a regular community run club and walking group, bringing people together around the shop as well as around great coffee.
The Role
We're looking for a friendly, reliable barista to join our small team for 16–24 hours per week.
You'll be responsible for:
- Preparing espresso-based drinks, V60 pour-overs, teas and signature drinks consistently and to a high standard
- Providing warm, attentive customer service and getting to know our regular customers
- Talking confidently with customers about the coffees we're serving
- Preparing and serving food to order
- Keeping the coffee bar, equipment, preparation areas and customer areas clean and well presented
- Following food-safety and allergen procedures
- Operating the till and processing payments accurately
- Helping with the general opening, running and closing of the shop
What We're Looking For
Specialty coffee experience is preferred, and a working understanding of espresso extraction, shot timing and milk texturing would be a strong advantage.
However, experience isn't everything. We're particularly interested in people who have a genuine enthusiasm for specialty coffee, want to learn and are keen to develop their skills and knowledge.
For the right candidate, we'll provide hands-on training and the opportunity to develop a much deeper understanding of coffee — from extraction and dialling in to different origins, processes, brewing methods and the more unusual coffees we regularly have on our bar.
We're looking for someone who is:
- Reliable and punctual
- Friendly, calm and confident with customers
- Particular about cleanliness and presentation
- Comfortable working as part of a small, close-knit team
- Genuinely interested in specialty coffee and keen to learn
- Available to work weekends as part of their normal rota
What We Offer
- Specialty coffee training and development, with the opportunity to build a deeper understanding of coffee and improve your practical barista skills
- The opportunity to work with an interesting and regularly changing selection of specialty and experimental coffees
- High-quality professional coffee equipment
- Staff discount
- Free parking
- Holiday pay
- Workplace pension
- A friendly, independent workplace with a close-knit, family-style environment
- The chance to become part of a coffee shop that is genuinely involved in its local community
To Apply
Please send us your CV and a short covering note telling us a little about yourself, your availability, your interest in coffee and why you'd like to work with us at Foresters Coffee.
We're especially interested in hearing from people who are enthusiastic about coffee and genuinely want to learn — so even if you don't have extensive specialty coffee experience, we'd still like to hear from you.
Pay: £12.71-£13.50 per hour
Benefits:
- Company pension
- Employee discount
- Free parking
Work Location: In person
