Salary: 21919-£30,000 FTE (£13,328 - £18,243 pro rata) depending on experience
Hours: 22.5 per week
Place of work: Based at Sunrise offices, 25 Castle Street, Barnstaple. Travel around Torridge and North Devon as required

The Person: You will have experience of providing 1-1 support and advocacy and working with diverse groups. We are looking for someone who has empathy, good listening skills and is non-judgmental. The successful candidate will be keen to take on new challenges and will be proactive in their approach with excellent organisation, communication and planning skills. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate passion, commitment and empathy with the aims of Sunrise and its cause.
The Role: The post holder will deliver 1-1 support and advocacy to people from diverse groups such as migrants, refugees, the LGBTQ+ community and those who face discrimination or barriers to accessing services due to protected characteristics. You will be supporting a small number of clients who have more complex needs and require extra support to get through difficult situations, alongside providing a drop-in service to people who need shorter term support such as form filling. You will provide support relating to issues such as housing, benefits, employment, hate crime reporting, safeguarding concerns and accessing rights and entitlements.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
· Work directly with beneficiaries on a one-to-one basis providing advocacy, self-help support and/or referral/signposting as necessary to other support agencies.
· Manage a small caseload of complex clients and offer a drop in for shorter term support.
· Embed a person centred and solution focused approach and working in a trauma informed way to improve mental and/or physical wellbeing, reduce isolation, and increase confidence.
· Work with the team and volunteers to assist clients to reach their own goals and aspirations.
· To assist in the recruitment and support of volunteers where appropriate.
· Assist the team with activities, groups and events.
· Represent Sunrise at external meetings, events and activities.
· Maintain records such as casework notes, work activities, beneficiary engagement and provide quantitative and qualitative data for monitoring and evaluation.
· Build and maintain positive relationships with partner organisations, volunteers and Sunrise supporters.

· Good Standard of Education (GCSE Maths and English Grade C or equivalent)
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills· Understanding of diverse cultures and minority groups, particularly those relevant in North Devon, and the issues facing Sunrise’s target beneficiaries· Understanding of other agencies’ roles in supporting target beneficiaries· Ability to prioritize and manage own workload
· IT Skills / Computer Literate
· Effective interpersonal and organisation skills
· Experience of providing an advocacy service for marginalised/vulnerable individuals
· Experience supporting and working with volunteers
· Experience of working with the community, voluntary sector and statutory agencies
· Reliable and flexible to changing needs of service
· Able to work alone or as part of a team
