Full job description

Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced and reliable Bookkeeper to join our accountancy practice on a full-time basis. The ideal candidate will have strong bookkeeping experience, particularly using VT Transaction+, and must be confident in preparing and filing VAT returns for a variety of clients.

This is a suitable role for someone who is organised, accurate, able to manage deadlines, and comfortable working in a busy accountancy office environment.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Maintaining accurate bookkeeping records for a portfolio of clients
Posting sales invoices, purchase invoices, bank receipts and payments
Completing bank reconciliations
Using VT Transaction+ to maintain client records
Preparing and reviewing VAT return workings
Filing VAT returns with HMRC
Ensuring VAT records comply with Making Tax Digital requirements
Identifying and correcting bookkeeping errors
Liaising with clients to request missing records and clarify queries
Preparing bookkeeping records for year-end accounts
Assisting accountants with accounts preparation where required
Maintaining accurate records and meeting internal deadlines
Supporting general office and administrative duties when needed

Essential Requirements

The applicant should have:

Previous bookkeeping experience in an accountancy practice or similar environment
Strong working knowledge of VT Transaction+
Experience preparing and filing VAT returns
Good understanding of VAT rules and bookkeeping principles
Ability to work accurately and independently
Good attention to detail
Strong communication skills
Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines
Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and general office software

Desirable Experience

Experience with any of the following would be an advantage:

Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or FreeAgent
Payroll processing
CIS returns
Accounts preparation support
Working in a UK accountancy practice

About the Role

This is a full-time office-based position. The successful candidate will work closely with accountants and other members of staff to support clients with their bookkeeping, VAT and accounting records.

We are looking for someone who is dependable, professional and willing to become a long-term member of the team.

Pay: £24,420.00-£30,000.00 per year
