About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a Quality Systems Engineer to support and improve the quality processes that underpin our Purchasing and Supply Chain functions. This role will play a key part in maintaining robust quality systems, supporting investigations, managing supplier quality activity, and driving continuous improvement across internal processes and supplier performance.
This is a varied role with both internal and supplier-facing responsibilities. You will support quality systems, reporting, governance, internal audit activity, NCR management and process improvement, while also working with suppliers on performance monitoring, quality investigations, approvals, and occasional supplier visits or audit activities.
As Quality Systems Engineer, you will help ensure that Purchasing and Supply Chain quality processes remain effective, compliant, and aligned with company, customer and regulatory requirements. You will support the delivery and continuous improvement of supplier quality processes, performance reporting, investigations, corrective actions and supplier approvals.
You will work closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers to identify quality trends, support root cause analysis, monitor supplier performance, and help drive practical improvements that support safe, compliant and effective operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and continuously improve the Approved Supplier Management Procedure and associated quality documentation.
- Ensure quality processes remain aligned with company, customer and regulatory requirements.
- Support the Purchasing and Supply Chain departments with procedure updates, internal audits, surveillance activities and NCR investigations.
- Support the development, review and maintenance of quality procedures and process documentation.
- Prepare, manage and present Supplier Performance Review Board meetings.
- Produce and analyse quality and supplier performance metrics, including trend analysis and root cause analysis.
- Attend quarterly KPI review meetings and present quality performance trends and improvement actions.
- Provide management with performance data and recommendations to support decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Process supplier quality issues and failure reports, ensuring investigations and actions are completed in a timely manner.
- Support investigations arising from occurrence reports relating to Purchasing activities.
- Represent the Purchasing and Supply Chain departments at Occurrence Review Meetings.
- Support the effective management and closure of NCRs and corrective actions across the Purchasing department.
- Support new supplier approval activities, ensuring suppliers have the required capability, approvals, certifications and accreditations.
- Support the maintenance of the risk-based supplier audit programme.
- Monitor supplier performance and support supplier quality improvement activities where required.
- Liaise with suppliers regarding quality concerns and corrective action responses.
- Support suppliers with quality-related issues, including Root Cause Corrective Action and Corrective and Preventive Action activities.
- Conduct routine reviews with key suppliers and MRO providers to discuss quality concerns, failure reports and improvement actions.
- Participate in supplier audits, surveillance activities, supplier visits and supplier performance assessments as required.
- Support supplier development activities and continuous improvement initiatives where appropriate.
Essential Skills & Experience
Essential
- Good knowledge and understanding of ISO 9001:2015.
- 3 years minimum proven experience within a Quality Engineering, Quality Systems, Supplier Quality, Manufacturing Quality, or Quality Assurance role within the civil and/or military aviation sector or a similarly regulated environment.
- Good problem-solving skills with thorough understanding of root cause and corrective action reporting and analysis.
- Experience producing quality metrics, KPI reporting and trend analysis.
- Good communication skills - informally and formally.
- Motivated, organised with attention to detail and able to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Good knowledge and application of MS Office applications.
- A formal qualification in Quality Assurance or Engineering.
Desirable
- Formal lead auditor qualification (ISO9001:2015/AS9100D).
- Knowledge of continuing airworthiness regulations (UK Part 145 / Part CAMO) and initial airworthiness regulation (UK Part 21 sub part G).
