This is a flexible, part-time role (20 hours per week) combining home and office working, designed to suit an experienced bookkeeper looking to fit rewarding professional work around other commitments.
Tax Effective Ltd is an established accountancy practice in Bayswater, London, providing bookkeeping, payroll, VAT and accounts services to a portfolio of business clients. We are seeking a detail-oriented and organised Bookkeeper and Administrator to join our team, supporting the Senior Client Manager with client bookkeeping and administration. The ideal candidate will have experience across a range of accounting software and strong organisational skills, and will value accuracy and reliability in a supportive professional environment.
The role is offered on a hybrid, flexible basis. The successful candidate will work a minimum of one day per week from our Westbourne Grove office, with the remaining hours worked flexibly from home. Occasional additional office attendance may be required to suit the needs of the practice, for example when a client is visiting. Candidates who are local and prefer to work from the office more often are welcome to do so. Specific working hours will be agreed on appointment.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, including data entry and reconciliation of accounts
- Preparation of VAT returns
- Preparation of self-assessment supporting documents
- Maintain accurate records of accounts payable and receivable
- Utilise accounting software such as Xero, FreeAgent and Sage to process transactions and generate reports
- Assist with payroll processing and employee expense claims
- Support administrative functions including scheduling, correspondence, and document organisation
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and company policies
Requirements
- Proven experience in bookkeeping or accounting roles, ideally using Xero, Sage or FreeAgent
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office applications
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
- Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in work output
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- An AAT or ICB qualification is desirable but not essential; practical experience is the primary consideration
