Reuse Hub Project Assistant

Newport Support Network CIC, publicly known as Feed Newport, is recruiting a Reuse Hub Project Assistant to support the new Baby Basics Newport Community Reuse Hub in Newport.

This is a practical, hands-on role working alongside the Project Coordinator and volunteers to receive, sort, record, prepare and redistribute reusable baby, children’s and household items.

Our aim is to keep good-quality items in use for longer, reduce waste and provide practical support to families across Newport.

Pay: £13.45 per hour – real Living Wage
Hours: 18 hours per week
Job type: Part-time, fixed-term
Contract: Project-funded until 31 March 2027
Probationary period: 3 months
Location: 30–32 Ebenezer Terrace, Newport, NP20 1ET

Main responsibilities

Receive and process donated items.
Sort, weigh and record incoming reusable items.
Check donations against agreed acceptance and safety procedures.
Clean and prepare suitable items for reuse where appropriate.
Organise clothing, baby items, equipment and household goods within the Reuse Hub.
Maintain accurate stock and redistribution records.
Prepare suitable items for collection or redistribution.
Support scheduled donation collections and activities.
Assist with public donation, swap and reuse events.
Work alongside and support volunteers.
Keep storage and working areas clean, safe and organised.
Record rejected or unsuitable items and follow agreed recycling or disposal procedures.
Help record project information, including item numbers and weights.
Follow safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety and data-protection procedures.
Carry out other reasonable duties directly connected with the Community Reuse Hub project.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

Is reliable, organised and comfortable with practical work.
Has good communication and people skills.
Can treat everyone with dignity, respect and without judgement.
Can work independently and as part of a small team.
Is comfortable keeping basic records and following procedures.
Understands the importance of confidentiality and safeguarding.
Is willing to undertake appropriate training.
Is comfortable with the practical and manual-handling elements of working with donated goods.

Previous experience in community work, reuse, warehousing, stock handling, charity retail, a baby bank or volunteering would be helpful, but is not essential. We welcome applicants with suitable transferable skills and experience.

Appointment

This is a project-funded fixed-term position ending on 31 March 2027.

The successful applicant will be subject to a three-month probationary period. Appointment will also be subject to satisfactory right-to-work checks, references and any other pre-employment checks appropriate to the role.

Continued employment will be subject to satisfactory completion of the probationary period and the terms and conditions of the employment contract.

The Baby Basics Newport Community Reuse Hub is delivered by Newport Support Network CIC, publicly known as Feed Newport.

The project supports the reuse and redistribution of suitable baby, children’s and household items, helping keep useful goods in circulation and reducing avoidable waste in Newport.

Funded by Newport City Council through the Reuse Newport Fund.
