Full job description

Lead Cook (Working Kitchen Supervisor)

Location: Hafan Yr Afon
Hours: Primarily Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, plus some evenings for events

About the Role

Hafan Yr Afon is looking for an experienced and creative Lead Cook to work alongside our existing kitchen team and help lead food service during our busiest periods.

This is a practical, hands-on role where you will cook as part of the team while also taking responsibility for maintaining high standards, supporting colleagues, and helping to develop our food offer.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and cook fresh, high-quality food
Work collaboratively with other cooks and kitchen staff
Help lead the kitchen during busy services and special events
Support menu development and contribute creative ideas
Maintain excellent food hygiene and health and safety standards
Assist with stock control, ordering, and minimising waste
Ensure dishes are presented consistently and to a high standard

Essential Requirements

Proven experience in a professional kitchen
Strong cooking skills and a passion for quality food
Ability to work well as part of a team and provide leadership when needed
Organised and able to remain calm under pressure
Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 3 preferred)
Availability to work Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and some evenings

Desirable

Experience in cafés, event catering, or busy hospitality venues
Knowledge of menu costing and stock management
Interest in seasonal and locally sourced ingredients
