Location : Llanfair PG, Anglesey

Salary : £24,521 Per Annum

Hours: Contracted to 420 Sessions per year (Session equals 3.7 Hours)

12 Month fixed term contract starting in September 2026

Overview:
The Conway Centre, part of Edsential Residential, has been dedicated to providing transformative Outdoor Education and Arts courses for young people since 1969. Nestled on the banks of the Menai Strait, our picturesque location allows for a multitude of outdoor activities, including kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, and sailing. With access to stunning coasteering venues and the majestic mountains of Eryri, the centre is supported by a team that thrives on delivering a diverse educational experience across various disciplines.

The Role:
We are excited to announce our long-established Trainee Outdoor Instructor programme, which aims to cultivate highly skilled instructors who are not only adept in outdoor activities but also exceptional educators. Successful candidates will embark on a journey of personal and professional growth, with the opportunity to gain National Governing Body (NGB) qualifications throughout their training. This is a one-year role starting in September 2026, with the possibility of extension upon successful completion of the initial training period.

What we want from you

We are seeking highly motivated people who are willing and eager to provide our clients with the best possible outdoor educational experience whilst staying with us.
Candidates who are dedicated to their own professional and personal development with a passionate drive to gain experience and skills, both in and out of work.
Can demonstrate a calm, considered and professional approach to working with wide range of clientele
An ability to find solutions to problems quickly to help work towards the smooth running of the centre.
Willingness to get involved with all aspects of centre life including evenings, weekends, sleep-in duties and at times supporting the wider team such as domestic chores.
Candidates who can conform to relevant Health and Safety procedures whilst working with clients and whilst working around the centre
To participate in the maintenance and monitoring of equipment
An ability to build rapport and empower clients to develop socially, educationally as well as develop their practical skills

What you get in return

Tracked training plan with regular meetings with a mentor where goals and targets can be set and monitored
The time to observe and work alongside an incredibly experienced and qualified team to allow you to build your practical skills and educational understanding. As you progress this will facilitate your ability to lead your own sessions in a progressive and supportive manner.
In house training to include Educational practices and outdoor activities
PPE including but not limited to Waterproofs, Buoyancy Aid, Kit Bags, Group Shelter
Live-in options available and on site parking

What Training is on offer?

You will get the opportunity to gain the following NGB’s and training throughout the 2 years as a trainee (this is equivalent to approximately £1300). As well as £500 towards other NGB training and assessment.

16 hours First Aid Course
Power Boat Level 2
VHF radio course
ML Training
Tidal Planning and navigation knowledge
Paddle sport Leadership courses
Up to 6 Personal development days with our Lead Instructor team or working with higher level groups

Candidates should have a genuine passion and enthusiasm for the outdoors and ideally have gained some training qualifications in outdoor activities. We are also looking for a willingness to participate in other curriculum areas which the Centre provides.
