Job Brief
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering CAD Draughtsman to join our specialist, multidisciplinary engineering team, working on lighter-than-air aircraft products, mechanical ground support equipment, and inflatable structures.
As part of this dynamic team, you will collaborate with engineers, suppliers, and external professionals, reporting directly to the Head of Design on all technical matters.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Creating detailed technical drawings for general assemblies, subassemblies, and components using industry-standard CAD practices.
- Extracting 2D CAD drawings from 3D models and developing flat pattern cut files from 3D surface models (training provided if needed).
- Applying precise dimensions, material specifications, and process details to CAD drawings while maintaining organized drawing registers.
- Performing engineering calculations to determine lengths, areas, volumes, weights, centers of gravity, and moment arms using spreadsheets and other technical tools.
- Generating technical reports based on drawings and data analyses to support certification processes, promotional material, and engineering design meetings.
- Reviewing and updating technical drawings to reflect modifications, ensuring designs remain accurate and current.
Qualifications & Skills
While a degree-level qualification is not mandatory, one to two years of relevant experience would be advantageous but not essential.
Preferred skills include:
- Strong mathematical and problem-solving ability, with proficiency in physics-based calculations relevant to mechanical design.
- Competency in CAD software, particularly AutoCAD.
- Experience with spreadsheets for data organization and calculations.

Please Note, The job is based in Oswestry, Shropshire and the candidate will be required to work on-site Monday to Friday.
