Part Time | Hybrid | Wallingford (OX10) | £35,000–£40,000 FTE (pro-rated) + Profit Share

Become the technical expert behind a growing practice.

Directive Finance is an award-winning, modern accountancy practice supporting ambitious business owners across Oxfordshire and beyond.

As we've grown, we're looking for an experienced Tax & Compliance Specialist to take ownership of our tax and compliance function, ensuring everything leaving the practice is technically accurate, compliant and delivered to the highest standard.

This is a key role within our team.

You'll become our go-to person for tax, providing technical oversight, supporting colleagues and giving our founder the confidence to step away from day-to-day compliance work and focus on growing the business.

The Role

You'll prepare, review and oversee tax and compliance work across the practice while acting as the final quality check before work reaches clients.

Working closely with our founder and wider team, you'll help ensure deadlines are met, opportunities are identified and clients receive the proactive advice they value.

Key Responsibilities

You'll be responsible for:

Preparing and reviewing Self Assessment tax returns (SA100s)
Preparing and reviewing Corporation Tax returns (CT600s) and tax computations
Preparing and reviewing statutory annual accounts
Reviewing VAT returns before submission
Preparing P11Ds and Benefits in Kind
Managing HMRC correspondence and enquiries
Reviewing work prepared by the wider team before submission
Completing tax reviews for new clients, identifying risks and opportunities
Monitoring tax deadlines across the client portfolio
Supporting straightforward tax planning, including:
Director salary and dividend planning
Pension contributions
Child Benefit and childcare threshold planning
Supporting the rollout of Making Tax Digital for Income Tax

What We're Looking For

You'll ideally have:

Recent experience working within a UK accountancy practice
Strong experience preparing Self Assessment and Corporation Tax returns
Experience preparing statutory accounts
AAT, ATT, ACA or ACCA qualification (or equivalent relevant experience)
Excellent technical knowledge and attention to detail
Confidence communicating directly with clients
Experience using Xero and cloud accounting software
A proactive approach and a genuine passion for delivering high-quality work

This role isn't suitable for entry-level applicants.

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 3–6 months:

Tax returns and annual accounts are consistently accurate and submitted on time
HMRC deadlines are monitored and met
Errors are identified before reaching clients
Clients receive confident, practical tax support
The wider team benefits from your technical expertise
Our founder can step back from day-to-day technical tax work with confidence
