Abingdon & Witney College is looking for two experienced and passionate Study Programme Leads in Health, Care and Early Years to lead and deliver high‑quality teaching across our well‑established and respected Health & Social Care provision.
The Health, Care and Early Years department offers learners a supportive and inclusive environment, combining high‑quality teaching with practical learning, work placements, and strong links to local employers across health, care, and early years sectors. Learners benefit from industry‑standard facilities, including specialist nursing rooms, and gain first‑hand experience in real care settings.
This role also benefits from dedicated remission time, providing the opportunity to step away from face‑to‑face teaching to focus on curriculum development, innovation, and quality improvement. This time enables the Study Programme Lead to enhance the overall student experience, embed best practice, strengthen employer engagement, and drive forward a high‑quality, responsive curriculum that meets sector needs.
The Role
As Study Programme Lead, you will be responsible for the effective delivery, coordination, and development of Health, Social Care, and Early Years programmes while also teaching across relevant courses.

Leading the planning, delivery, and quality assurance in Health, Social Care, and Early Years programmes.
- Teaching engaging and inclusive lessons across Health, Social Care, and Early Years programmes.
- Supporting learners through practical training, work placements, and professional development.
- Embedding safeguarding, equality, and inclusive practice into all aspects of delivery.
- Providing tutorial and pastoral support to learners.
- Monitoring learner progress and supporting achievement and progression.
- Contributing to curriculum development and continuous improvement.
- Working closely with employers, colleagues, and external partners to enhance learner outcomes.
Essential Criteria:
-
Passion for Health, Social Care, and Early Years education.
- Degree‑level qualification or equivalent in a relevant subject.
- Qualified Teacher Status, or willingness to work towards a teaching qualification.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
- Level 2 (or equivalent) qualifications in literacy and numeracy.
- Experience teaching Health, Social Care, and Early Years or a related curriculum area.
- Excellent teaching and classroom management skills.
- Ability to engage and support diverse learner groups.
Desirable:
-
Assessor and/or Verifier qualification.
- Experience teaching within a post‑16 or Further Education setting.
- Strong links with health, social care, or early years employers.
