Housing & Welfare Support Officer - Ref: EE03026

Salary £31537 – £34434 Grade G6
Contract Type: Fixed Term until 31/03/2029
Working Hours: 37 a week

What does the role entail?

Outreach work is carried out in pairs through daily street visits, engaging with people sleeping rough, assessing their needs, and making referrals to housing providers. The goal is to ensure a smooth transition from the street to accommodation with a personalised support plan for each individual.

Managing a caseload of former rough sleepers in new accommodation, providing tenancy support and preventing their return to homelessness.

Staff need to demonstrate persistence, resilience, and creativity when engaging with individuals experiencing rough sleeping, providing support to assist this group in managing and addressing challenges.

The Rough Sleeper Initiative (RSI) Team in Walsall Borough collaborates with partner services and the voluntary, community, and faith sectors to help rough sleepers move from the streets into permanent accommodation, addressing individual support needs at each person’s pace.

We support rough sleepers and newly housed individuals by removing barriers and creating opportunities through persistent, creative service.

This role involves supporting vulnerable rough sleepers and requires flexibility and effective assistance for both clients and a continually evolving team.

The role requires early morning outreach, occasional unsociable hours, and flexible teamwork.

Who are we looking for?

To be successful in this role you need to have:

Experience in working with either rough sleepers, hard-to-reach groups, or those with multiple and complex needs.
Awareness of challenges faced by homeless rough sleepers, including adults with complex needs, addictions, and lack of access to public funds.
Excellent communication and listening skills.
Excellent negotiating and advocacy skills
Ability to lone work and manage own day-to-day caseload.
Demonstrates proficiency in maintaining current and accurate records using multiple computerised systems.
The ability to resolve conflict constructively and prevent escalation
