Flexographic Print Operator
Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Flexographic Print Operator to join our production team. This role is responsible for the efficient set-up, operation, and maintenance of flexographic printing presses, ensuring the production of high-quality printed products that meet customer specifications and company standards.
The successful candidate will have previous flexographic printing experience, strong colour matching skills, excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Hours of Work
40 hours per week on a rotating two-shift pattern:
- Morning Shift: 6:00am – 2:00pm
- Afternoon Shift: 2:00pm – 10:00pm
Flexibility to work additional hours, including nights when required to meet production demands may be necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and understand production requirements from job cards and work instructions.
- Prepare and locate all materials, plates, sleeves, cylinders, inks, and consumables required for production.
- Mount printing plates, sleeves, and cylinders accurately and in accordance with job specifications.
- Mix and match inks to approved colour standards using company-approved equipment and procedures.
- Set up and operate flexographic printing presses, including:
- Web threading.
- Ink and varnish application.
- Registration control.
- Machine tension settings appropriate to substrate specifications.
- Meterage counters and production monitoring systems.
- Produce high-quality print work while maintaining optimum machine performance and productivity.
- Establish and maintain colour standards, plate locations, sleeve records, and roller configurations for all new designs.
- Inspect printed products throughout production to ensure colour accuracy, print quality, registration, and compliance with customer specifications.
- Minimise waste of materials, inks, and substrates through effective machine set-up and process control.
- Complete all production, quality, maintenance, and traceability documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Label, store, and manage finished reels in accordance with company procedures.
- Carry out routine machine maintenance and daily operator checks, ensuring all maintenance records are completed.
- Report machine faults, plate issues, sleeve defects, roller concerns, or quality issues promptly to management and maintenance teams.
- Follow manual handling procedures and utilise lifting equipment safely and correctly.
- Maintain excellent housekeeping standards within the print department and surrounding work areas in line with BRCGS regulations
- Ensure all tools and equipment are stored correctly, maintained, and accounted for at all times.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and management to improve quality, efficiency, and production performance.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Previous experience operating flexographic printing presses.
- Strong understanding of flexographic print processes, colour management, and print registration.
- Ability to read and interpret job specifications and production documentation.
- Excellent colour matching and print quality assessment skills.
- Experience completing production and maintenance records accurately.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Good mechanical aptitude and practical engineering awareness.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and achieve production targets.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
Desirable
- Experience operating wide-web flexographic presses.
- Experience working with solvent-based inks.
- Knowledge of plate mounting systems and sleeve technology.
- Understanding of BRCGS regulations

Pay: £24,420.00-£41,417.14 per year
