We are part of the Tara Group consisting of Cameron Homes delivering high quality new homes across the Midlands and Keon Homes who work in partnership with local authorities for affordable homes provision as well as delivering homes for the private rental sector (PRS).
The Tara Group is a family-owned independent company, consisting of four companies involved in the construction of housing. It was originally founded in 1974 by Noel Sweeney and remains in the ownership of the Sweeney Family. With offices in Chasetown, we employ over 250 across our group and work with over 400 sub-contractors.
We are looking for a motivated and ambitious Senior Engineer to join our Groundworks and Civil Engineering team. The primary role of the Senior Site Engineer is to carry out all setting out duties, provide technical guidance to the site team and to ensure all specifications and standards are met so that the project can be built to the highest quality.
Key role responsibilities
Information

Check all project drawings and information for accuracy and consistency.

Ensure that all CAD information is cross checked against contractual drawing for accuracy before being used to set out from.
- Ensure that latest information is always being used.
Pre-Commencement Works

Ensure that all outfall manholes are surveyed and confirmed as correct prior to works starting, if not as per design, then the client must be notified straight away via the RFI system
Day to Day Duties
-
Provide technical guidance to site teams where necessary.
- Carry out all site setting out duties.
- Ensure site specifications are implemented on site.

Ensure workload is managed to keep site team productive & site program is maintained.

Ensure that all instiu testing is carried out in accordance to site/adoption specification
- Have a good understanding of project earthwork volumes/strategy and document any changes and report them to the Technical Manager.
- Promote use of GPS machine control where possible

If experienced, create earthwork and terrain models for GPS operated plant when required.
- Carry out checks on GPS works to ensure accuracy and tolerances are always achieved.

Report any drawing changes to the engineering manager and GPS engineer which will affect GPS models.

Carry out any survey requirements to a presentable standard.

Ensure that latest information is always being used.
Quality Assurance

Ensure that the QA management procedures are always complied with

Ensure that the Engineers QA sheets and records including as-builts are kept up date and stored correctly within QA file on the company server.

Ensure all setting out information is translated clearly and simply for use by the site team using the QA sheets or sketches if required.
Record Keeping/As-builts

Maintain accurate records of any changes during the construction process and communicate these with the Surveyor and contracts manager for cost and record purposes.
Engineering Equipment

Ensure all survey and GPS equipment in your possession is kept safe from theft, damage, always kept clean and is properly maintained

Take full ownership of engineering activities, ensuring works are delivered accurately, efficiently, and to programme.

Act as the key technical point of contact on site, confidently resolving engineering issues and supporting decision-making.

Communicate effectively with the Engineering Manager, Project Manager, clients, and subcontractors to ensure alignment across all parties.

Maintain a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail in all setting out, surveying, and QA processes.

Proactively identify risks, design issues, or discrepancies and escalate them appropriately, offering practical solutions.

Drive the use of modern engineering methods, including GPS machine control and digital engineering solutions.

Ensure all records, as-builts, and QA documentation are completed accurately, on time, and in line with company procedures.

Support the development of junior engineers and apprentices, sharing knowledge and encouraging best practice.

Represent the company professionally at all times, building strong working relationships with clients and stakeholders.
