This is an exciting opportunity to join Poole lab on the ‘worm floor’ in the Cell and Developmental Biology Department. We are vibrant team of diverse researchers, whose interests are in the field of developmental neurobiology with a specific focus on asymmetric cell division, cell fate plasticity and transdifferentiation.

About the role

The main purpose of this position is to provide technical support for ongoing research in the Poole lab studying sexually dimorphic asymmetric cell division and transdifferentiation of post-embryonic neuronal progenitors. The Poole lab use C. elegans as a model system study these processes. The role consists mostly of supporting a postdoctoral researcher in their specific project aims, although there is scope to develop a smaller side-project. The main duties include the generation, maintenance and imaging of various mutant and transgenic reporter strains plus general molecular biology as and when required (genotyping, cloning, CRISPR etc). The candidate will also be expected to take on several lab management roles including consumables ordering and general lab organisation.

This is a Grade 6 Technician position with a salary range of £36,433-£41,833 (including London Allowance) https://www.ucl.ac.uk/human-resources/sites/human_resources/files/2025-_26_ucl_non-clinical_grade_structure_with_spinal_points_v4.pdf .

This role is an open-ended contract with a funding date of 31/12/2026 in the first instance.

About you

We are looking for a candidate with excellent qualifications in Neurobiology, ideally a Masters level degree. As this is initially a relatively short-term position to support an active ongoing project to completion, it is essential the candidate has a high level of previous C. elegans research experience and an excellent grasp of genetics, imaging and general molecular biology techniques.

We are looking for someone with the ability to drive their own research forwards, who also can troubleshoot, problem solve and communicate their findings well. It is important they work well within a team as they will be embedded within a larger group of four C. elegans labs with whom we have shared interests and shared lab meetings.
