Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated HGV Mechanic to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with strong mechanical and electrical expertise to work in a dynamic environment, providing vital support for our fleet operations. The position involves hands-on work with various equipment, requiring attention to detail, technical proficiency, and a commitment to safety standards.

Duties

Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on HGVs, including lorries and specialised equipment such as excavators and forklifts
Diagnose faults using schematics and electrical diagrams, then carry out repairs or component replacements
Perform fabrication, welding, soldering, and assembly work as needed to repair or modify vehicle parts
Utilise hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment to repair engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, and electrical systems
Maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance activities in accordance with company procedures
Assist with equipment repair and maintenance tasks involving heavy lifting and the use of lifting gear
Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations and industry standards
Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with team members and clients regarding vehicle status and repair timelines

Qualifications

Proven experience in heavy vehicle or machinery repair, ideally with a focus on HGVs
Strong mechanical knowledge combined with electrical experience relevant to heavy-duty vehicles
Proficiency in reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
Skilled in fabrication, welding, soldering, and the use of hand tools and power tools
Experience working with specialised equipment such as excavators or forklifts is desirable
Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently in a busy workshop environment
Good organisational skills with attention to detail for record keeping and diagnostics
Excellent problem-solving skills coupled with a customer-focused approach
Relevant qualifications such as NVQ or City & Guilds in Vehicle Maintenance or Mechanical Engineering are preferred

Pay: £35,000.00-£52,000.00 per year
