We’re looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Developer to join our brilliant Business Intelligence Team to help deliver reporting through a series of strategic projects. The BI team is temporarily expanding to work on a strategic Digital Transformation project, migrating from our existing ERP estate into a new composable architecture and ways of working. We are interested in hearing from people who would be excited to work on projects implementing new systems and leading the design of the new reporting landscape.
This role is all about ensuring our implementation projects run successfully and working closely with our customers to ensure that the right data is available to them as easily as possible. The desire for insight is unstoppable at the RNLI, and the role will include representing the BI Team in Project meetings, selling the enterprise reporting strategy to our customers, gathering requirements and designing reporting products with great user experience baked in at all levels.
You will work with project teams to understand the scope and impact on reporting and to produce achievable delivery plans for those products. The role will work with others in the department to ensure well-structured dimensional data models are delivered in Databricks via a robust semantic/ gold layer, and to use these models to deliver the Power BI reporting to meet our customer’s reporting requirements. The role will collaborate closely with others in the team to maintain the award-winning BI products that our people rely on.
As a Senior Business Intelligence Developer, you’ll help the RNLI transform the way we consume insight by:

- Turning the needs of customers into well designed reporting products that help users understand their data and drive action
- Understanding the scope and impact of each project and ensuring there are sensible plans for reporting delivery
- Working with other experts in the RNLI’s data teams to ensure we consolidate data and deliver a robust reporting layer that will meet the organisations reporting and analytical needs now, and in the future
- Making sure we have high quality, structured data flowing from source systems to our reporting presentation layer so we can deliver accurate and timely insight to those that need it
- Ensuring that data quality and security is considered throughout any systems change in the RNLI, from system design and implementation right through to the insight we deliver
We are looking for someone with advanced data modelling and SQL developer experience who can gather and interpret complex reporting requirements and multiple business processes to deliver a robust suite of reporting products delivered through Power BI.
You will be able to work in an agile manner to deliver benefit to our customers as soon as possible according to project priorities. You will enjoy working with other data professionals and others on the project delivery teams to ensure that dependencies across teams are understood and communicated so that data can flow from consumption to presentation layers in a robust and efficient manner.
You will have extensive experience and working knowledge of SSMS or Azure Databricks, dimensional data modelling, Kimball methodology techniques and building data structures for consumption and presentation via Power BI.
You will be confident to represent the needs of the team on the projects and leading the scoping, planning, design and delivery of data products.
You will be used to working to project timescales and using project delivery tools such as Jira and Azure DevOps.
- Someone who understands how data should be consumed and structured throughout each level of ingestion and transformation to a presentation layer to deliver business intelligence reporting in Power BI
- Someone with a vast experience of creating robust data warehouse models to meet complex reporting and analytical needs
- Someone who enjoys working in a complex project environment
- Someone who is confident working with data from ERP systems, ideally with experience of working with D365 and Workday
- Someone who is proficient in writing robust SQL code, designing dimensional data models which are reusable and working within Databricks
