Community & Events Coordinator (Volunteer)
Location: Manchester, UK (Hybrid/Flexible)
Commitment: Approximately 3–5 hours per week
About Hadrian's Lover
Hadrian's Lover is an emerging queer cultural platform dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ+ stories, creativity, history, and community through events, conversations, performances, and digital content.
At a time when many grassroots queer spaces and creative initiatives are struggling to survive, we believe there is still a need for thoughtful, inclusive, and inspiring spaces where people can gather, connect, and create together.
As we continue to grow, we're looking for a Community & Events Coordinator to help us build relationships, develop partnerships, and support the delivery of future events and programming.
About the Role
This is a flexible volunteer position suited to someone interested in arts and culture, community building, events, LGBTQ+ initiatives, or creative project management.
You will work directly with the founder and social media team to help expand Hadrian's Lover's reach and strengthen connections within the queer community.
Responsibilities may include:
- Building relationships with queer artists, performers, writers, and creatives
- Researching and contacting potential collaborators, venues, and community partners
- Supporting the planning and delivery of events and fundraisers
- Helping coordinate performers, vendors, and contributors
- Identifying opportunities for partnerships and community engagement
- Attending occasional events and representing Hadrian's Lover within the community
- Contributing ideas for future programming and initiatives
About You
You don't need extensive experience. We're more interested in enthusiasm, initiative, and a genuine interest in queer culture and community.
While no specific qualifications are required, the following would be beneficial:
- Previous experience in events, community engagement, outreach, arts administration, cultural programming, fundraising, hospitality, or project coordination
- Experience volunteering with community organisations, charities, festivals, student societies, or grassroots initiatives
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence in building relationships with artists, performers, venues, and community partners
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects or deadlines
- Familiarity with the LGBTQ+ community and an interest in queer culture, arts, and events
- Experience using tools such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Canva, Eventbrite, or project management platforms is helpful but not essential
- A proactive attitude and willingness to take initiative
We recognise that valuable experience comes from many different places. If you're excited about the role but don't meet every item listed above, we'd still love to hear from you.
You may be:
- Interested in events, arts administration, cultural programming, or community engagement
- Organised and proactive
- Comfortable communicating with new people
- Passionate about LGBTQ+ culture and community
- Looking to build experience within the cultural, charity, events, or creative sectors
What You'll Gain
- Hands-on experience helping grow an emerging queer cultural organisation
- Practical experience in event planning, outreach, partnerships, and community engagement
- Opportunities to build your professional network within Manchester's creative and LGBTQ+ communities
- Meaningful projects and responsibilities that can be included in your CV, LinkedIn profile, and professional portfolio
- The ability to showcase events, partnerships, campaigns, and initiatives you help create as part of your personal body of work
- A professional reference and LinkedIn recommendation
- Creative input into future programming and projects
- First consideration for future paid opportunities as the organisation grows
