Due to continued growth, we are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design and Development Engineer to join our team at RW Seals. Responsible for solving complex engineering challenges and delivering innovative solutions for both our clients and internal projects whilst utilising a combination of desktop analysis and hands-on practical skills to design, develop, and test mechanical solutions from initial concept through to real-world application, ensuring all designs meet strict performance, quality, and safety requirements. The position also involves undertaking experimental testing and modelling to validate and refine designs, ultimately producing robust, reliable solutions ready for deployment on customer sites.
PRINCIPAL TASKS:
- Develop detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using CAD software (Fusion 360) to support product development and innovation efforts.
- Optimise designs for manufacturability and cost-effectiveness. Prototype and test solutions in a workshop environment, utilizing tools and equipment to evaluate performance and functionality.
- Participate in design reviews, provide technical expertise, and offer solutions to design challenges.
- Develop solution to a final realistic condition, ready for site deployment, including representative testing.
- Conduct structural analysis and testing to validate design concepts and ensure product reliability and performance.
- Assess and manage risks, writing risk assessments appropriate for the task and other proactive engagement in Health, Safety, Environment and Security.
- Occasional attendance at customer sites for survey or deployment purposes.
- Provide appropriate quality assurance and rigour dependent on solution development stage, but always compliant with ISO 9001:2015.
- Use tools to construct rigs and equipment including pressurised and heated systems for solution testing purposes, and control, monitor and data collection systems.
- Document and analyse results and learning outcomes in fit for purpose documentation, sharing key learning and implementation in future projects.
- Participate in internal and external project meetings, sharing your technical observations, suggestions for improvement, analysis and progress updates.
- Write reports and customer deliverables.
- Undertake a variety of tasks within your capability, at the request of management.
- Take accountability for your workstream in order to deliver project and customer deadlines, reaching decisions which adhere to good engineering practice and work within quality and safety standards.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS, QUALITIES, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate engineering discipline.
- Extensive mechanical design experience.
- Proficient in 3D CAD and GD&T experience, preferred experience in Fusion 360.
- Ability to think creatively, deriving engineering solutions from first principles.
- Ability to define and analyse complex problems and find cost effective solutions.
- Experience of the full design process from concept, experimental, detailed and final design including design for manufacture.
- Good record keeping – able to keep complete records of design iterations and test results.
- Comfortable using hand tools and power tools safely.
- Experience of setting up and running fit for purpose practical testing at each development stage.
- Attention to detail approach with high standards reflected through all practical and written work.
- Team player – pulling together to get the job done with a flexible approach who can work effectively within a small team for desk based, workshop based and site work.

PREFERABLE EXPERIENCE
- Experience of installation of engineering solutions on customer sites.
- Work with pressure systems including an understanding of pressurised and fluid control systems.
- Experience of working within a hazardous environment.
PAY & SCHEDULE
- £35,000 - £42,000 per year
- 38 hours per week with an early finish on a Friday
