Overview
Consultants develop, deliver and manage high end IT Asset Management (ITAM) consultancy services into enterprise organisations especially in the key areas of software licensing, compliance and optimisation reporting, Hardware Asset Management (HAM), Cloud migration, ITAM policy and process, and audit support.
The Licensing Consultant is a senior member of our managed service and consultancy delivery teams. As well as engaging directly with the client and leading the delivery of deliverables to support managed services and other engagements, Consultants are also expected to pro-actively pursue software publisher specialisms, showcase expertise internally and externally, and develop junior members of the team.
The role requires an eye for detail, an analytical mindset and experience helping clients to realise the wider benefits of effective IT AM over and above software licence compliance. Consultants lead on the delivery of Optimised Licence Positions (OLP’s) for complex publishers to clients as well as answering client queries. They are responsible for the successful delivery of managed service and professional services engagements and the continuous improvement of Synyega materials.
Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of the Licensing Consultant include:
Delivery
- Proactively managing and delivering services to clients ensuring a consistently excellent level of service.
- Ensuring client objectives are met and that the client derives the best possible value from their software licensing arrangements.
- Developing client engagement practices including, but not limited to, technical solutions, process and project management, software asset management and wider ITAM practices.
- Leading the delivery of more complex pieces of consultancy such a Target Operating Model (TOM) creation and implementation or Cloud Migrations.
- Supporting and advising on commercial discussions and deal preparation strategy and tactics.
- Producing accurate ELPs from a variety of data sources for various software publishers.
- Producing Optimised Licence Positions (OLPs), including detailed licence optimisation and risk remediation options.
- Translating delivery activity into a measurable risk and optimisation narrative, and delivering this narrative to clients and internally in Synyega.
- Maintaining service documentation such as risk logs, opportunities trackers and service RAID logs.
- Supporting clients in audit defence strategies and environments.
- Operating as part of the Synyega team, contributing to client engagement planning and delivery.
- Maintaining up to date industry knowledge of publisher licensing, policies and practices.
- Creation and delivery of training to support embedding the ITAM practice.
Client Management
- Acting as a trusted partner to clients, building trust and strengthening relationships with all stakeholders.
- Maintaining clear expectations on service scope, timelines and outcomes.
- Providing concise executive-level updates including risks and opportunities, options for mitigation and clear calls to action.
Continuous Improvement & Business Development
- Supporting sales activities in new and existing customer accounts, for example by providing publisher subject matter expertise.
- Defining, maintaining, improving and monitoring Synyega documentation, report templates, delivery standards and working practices across the team.
- Developing internal processes to ensure Synyega services are efficient and cost/resource effective and delivered to a high standard.
- Contribute to the development and on-going improvement of business services.
- Assist with the training, mentoring and development of the ITAM Delivery team.
Team Management
- Managing a small team, providing guidance, support and performance feedback.
- Fostering a positive team culture that encourages collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.
- Providing ongoing coaching and mentoring to team members, supporting their professional growth.
- Supporting in resourcing activities, including recruitment, onboarding, training and forecasting.
Experience & Skills
Essential:
- In depth software licensing working knowledge and experience, minimum of 5 years, ideally gained from a publisher, vendor, reseller, consultancy, or end user environment.
- Ability to translate technical delivery activity into financial, commercial, and risk-based client value.
- Experience delivering compliance positions using dedicated SAM tools such as Flexera, SNOW, Service Now SAM Pro, USU Licence Manager or Xensam.
- Experience delivering software licence compliance positions in / for a complex medium to large organisation.
- Data handling and analysis experience gained from an ITAM environment.
- Publisher Specialist on at least one top tier publisher; Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, SAP, etc.
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent working knowledge and experience of data centre and cloud computing environments.
- Understanding of Statements of Work (SOWs), scope management, and formal change control.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have the right to work in the UK, be a UK resident for a minimum of 5 years and be able to attain UK Government SC Clearance.
Desirable:
- Experience managing or leading a team.
- Experience within central government or regulated sectors.
- Experience leading delivery of an ITAM function or managed service.
- Additional MCP qualifications.
- Azure certification(s).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience of specific IT Asset Management discovery tools (e.g., Flexera, Snow, USU, ServiceNow, RV Tools, SCCM).
- Wider software publisher licensing experience (e.g. Oracle, SAP, IBM, VMware etc.).
- Cloud computing data handling and analysis.
- Experience using Jira / Confluence and ClickUp.
- ITIL Foundation certification.
Qualifications
- Degree (BSc / BA or equivalent) or relevant IT experience.
- You may have gained relevant experience from a variety of backgrounds and for the right person we will provide training and support to help you become successful in this role.
Languages
- English: excellent verbal and written skills are essential.
- EU languages desirable (but not essential) such as: German, Italian, French, Spanish.
