About the role
Balfour Beatty is seeking an experienced Senior Design Manager to join our Regional Buildings division, based from either our Warrington or Birmingham office. This key role supports our Post Construction Portfolio, delivering assurance and solutions across a diverse range of projects throughout the UK.
The Post Construction Portfolio within the Buildings Business requires the skills and organisation of a Senior Design Manager to be applied across multiple projects dealing with legacy issues. You will operate in a technically demanding environment where designs must be reviewed, challenged and resolved against existing conditions, historic decisions and evolving standards.
What you'll be doing
The Post Construction Portfolio within the Buildings Business requires the skills and organisation of a Senior Design Manager to be applied to multiple projects dealing with legacy issues. Because of the very specific nature of this work there will be an emphasis on skills and knowledge that differs from the expectations for new build projects which include:
- Responsible for the design management delivery and co-ordination required to process legacy issues on completed projects. The scope of such services will be integrated with the approach agreed within the Post Construction Leadership Team and will vary from project to project as determined through a multi-disciplinary triage process at the outset.
- Based on the outcome of the triage process the details of the approach to technical issues will be agreed with the Post Construction Technical Lead. From this point onwards the Senior Design Manager – Post Construction will procure, liaise, review, report and manage the delivery of services necessary to meet the brief. This will include design management and internal technical assurance processes for both internal and external resources.
- Liaise and co-ordinate with the Operational, Commercial and Legal Counsel team for each project.
- The Senior Design Manager – Post Construction is expected to be conversant and competent working around building related technical defects matters but will also draw upon expertise and specific technical competence from internal subject matter experts and external experts.
- The role will require the feedback of lessons learned to the technical function in both work winning and delivery phases of new build projects.
- The Senior Design Manager – Post Construction will be conversant with legal matters associated with Post Construction work.
- The Senior Design Manager will be conversant with historic, current and changing regulation including the Building Safety Act.
Who we're looking for
The following qualities/experience are recommended:
- Degree / HNC / HND / in Construction related subject
- Preferably professionally qualified or working towards a professional qualification
- Preferred previous Post Construction Design Management Experience
