We are responsible for transporting gas to power stations, major industries, storage facilities, and more than half a million businesses and 24 million homes through nearly 5,000 miles of pipes across Britain. If you can apply analytical and project expertise across a diverse portfolio of innovation projects to improve the efficiency, reliability and future capability of the gas transmission system – we want to hear from you!

This role supports strategic themes including energy security & resilience, low-carbon transition, and asset & safety - shaping ideas into deliverable work. Using a structured approach of problem identification, root cause analysis and proof-of-concept (PoC) validation, you’ll help define clear value cases, de-risk solutions and translate learning into scalable improvements for the business, including future gas system enhancements.

Key accountabilities:

Support the technical delivery of Network Innovation Allowance (NIA), Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) portfolio projects in the given strategic theme.

Support project delivery with a high Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and deploying into the business.

Support the strategic portfolio of projects and technology roadmaps with stakeholder input.

Work with worldwide and UK stakeholders including networks to develop cross functional innovation projects and ensure the validity of our strategy and portfolio of projects.

Disseminate key focus areas and activities to the business.

Support in the identification and application of external funding opportunities.

Develop project scopes and funding bids with relevant teams.

Support cross functional forums.

Ensure and enable the commerciality of our innovation activities.

Develop project overview packs and financial project information for internal review.

Support Internal, Corporate audit and external UKRI/Ofgem audit process.

Monitor and manage project delivery on multiple projects progression against time, cost and quality.

Value tracking and benefit realisation process of the innovation portfolio to support regulatory reporting commitments.

About you:

Knowledge of NIA and SIF project funding mechanisms and the regulatory governance requirements.

Experience with utilising six sigma and/or lean innovation mechanisms to develop programmes, business cases, and scopes of work.

Knowledge of external funding mechanisms (Ofgem, InnovateUK, EU).

Knowledge of IP positions relating to innovation projects.

Experience of working with cross functional indirect teams to develop & deliver projects.

Experience of communicating complex technical solutions across multi-disciplinary functions.

Knowledge/experience of working on complex multidisciplinary engineering projects.

Broad understanding of National Gas Transmission’s business.

Experience developing and managing a complex project portfolio, delivering on time and within budget.

Incorporated member of an institution would be highly regarded e.g. IGEM, IMechE, IMMM, IET etc
