Oakes Farm Shop Ltd is looking for a Butcher to join our team!
Oakes Farm Shop is a family run farm shop based in Balsall Common (CV7), and consist of a farm shop, butchery, delicatessen, production kitchen, and a café.
We are looking for an experienced and passionate butcher with excellent customer service skills. A minimum of 5 years butchery experience is essential and you must work well both individually and in a team. This role involves a wide range of butchery, including carcass butchery and sausages making, as well as serving customers at the counters.
Our butchery currently comprises of large counters and a multi-deck fridge and freezer, all filled with meats cut and prepared by our in-house butchers.
Our business ethos is to provide fresh and local produce to our customers, which is exactly what we do in our butchery, with meat coming from as close as the fields surrounding the farm shop.
A block test will be carried out as part of the interview process.
Working Hours
This position will involve working from 42 hours per week, over 5 days. (Days will vary between Monday-Sunday)
Due to the nature of our business, you must be flexible to work any days of the week, including weekends as shifts can vary.
In the run up to the Christmas period, you will be expected to work slightly longer hours and/or additional days (paid overtime) however, the business is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years’ Day every year!
Main Duties: to include but not limited to:
- Cutting and preparing whole carcasses for display on the butchery counter
- Make sausages and production of value added meals
- Packing of meat for display on multi deck
- Preparing meat for our kitchen and production team
- Providing outstanding customer service to each and every customer
- Advising customers on different cuts of meat and how best to cook them
- Receiving delivery of goods and ensuring stock is rotated
- Maintaining a clean working environment, adhering to cleaning regulations
- Must be able to work as part of a team and equally as well on your own
- Ensuring excellent customer service at all times
- Continuously working with the department manager and team to help the department grow and achieve set targets
Personal Specification:
· Excellent customer service
· A minimum of 5 years experience working in a butchery
· Able to work overtime when needed (mainly in the run up to Christmas and Easter)
· Able to stand for long periods of time
· Able to lift hind quarters
· A passion for local & quality food, including locally reared meats
· Ability to multitask and work well in a team
· Excellent initiative and a good work ethic
· Excellent communication skills and solid numeracy skills
· Full clean UK driving license
