Bursledon Parish Council is growing its Grounds Maintenance team and is looking to recruit a Grounds Maintenance Operative.
This is an exciting time to join the Council. The Parish Council is taking on responsibility for additional areas of land and open space, and we are strengthening our in-house team so we can continue to maintain and improve the public spaces used by the local community.
This is a practical, hands-on outdoor role helping to care for the Council’s open spaces, cemeteries, play areas, sports pitches, allotments and other land managed by the Council.
The role would suit someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in their work and wants to be part of a small, friendly team making a visible difference across the parish.

Salary: SCP 13 — £31,410 per annum, subject to the 2026/27 national pay award
Contract: Permanent, subject to satisfactory probationary period

About the role
The role will include:
- grass cutting and strimming;
- hedge cutting and vegetation management;
- general grounds maintenance;
- litter picking and basic cleansing duties;
- maintenance of open spaces, cemeteries, play areas, sports pitches and allotments;
- safe use of grounds maintenance tools, machinery and vehicles;
- supporting the maintenance of newly transferred areas of land;
- working as part of the wider Grounds Maintenance team.
The role is physically active and involves working outdoors throughout the year in a range of weather conditions.
About you
We are looking for someone who is reliable, practical and able to work well as part of a small team.
Experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, estate maintenance, grass cutting, strimming, hedge cutting or a similar outdoor practical role would be an advantage. Experience using equipment such as ride-on mowers, pedestrian mowers, strimmers and hedge cutters would also be desirable.
Applicants should have a good understanding of safe working practices and be willing to undertake any training required for the role.
You will need to be someone who takes pride in their work and understands the importance of keeping public spaces safe, tidy and well maintained for the community.
