An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) to join the Microbiology Department at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, Sutton site.
Our Microbiology service plays a vital role in supporting the care of immunocompromised oncology patients, delivering high-quality diagnostic services to inform timely clinical decision-making. This role is ideal for individuals with an interest in laboratory medicine who are keen to develop their skills within a specialist and supportive environment.
You will join a dedicated and friendly team committed to delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred diagnostic services. The department actively supports continuous learning and professional development, including competitive opportunities to work towards an HCPC registration portfolio after 12 months, subject to eligibility and bench rotation completion.
The post-holder will perform basic tasks to support the Biomedical Scientists within the Blood Sciences laboratories in accordance with Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs). The post holder will organise and receive samples ensuring they are processed in a timely manner, including samples analysed on site and referred to other laboratories.

Technical
- To assist with the receipt and processing of samples in accordance with SOPs.
- Undertake specimen reception and data entry with a high level of accuracy
- Collection and delivery of transport bags and consumables to and from bus / taxi.
- Assisting in preparing Blood Sciences and Microbiology samples for transport as needed
- Undertake pre-analytical processing of samples such as centrifugation, and post-analytical tasks such as filing/archiving
- Undertake general portering duties within Pathology
