Full job description

We are currently looking for production Despatch Fresh and Frozen Operatives to join one of the UK's leading family-owned seafood businesses.

ROLE PURPOSE:

To support the Fresh and Frozen Manager in the effective day-to-day running of the function, ensuring the efficient movement of raw materials and finished goods
To supervise despatch operations, maintaining high standards of safety, accuracy, and service
To act as a key link between the department, the wider operational team, and logistics providers, ensuring timely and cost-effective distribution
To contribute to continuous improvement and staff development within the department

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Act as deputy to the Fresh and Frozen Manager, providing cover and support as required
Supervise and coordinate the despatch team, ensuring workload is effectively managed and deadlines are met
Support staff development, including training, performance management, and coaching
Oversee raw material intake, ensuring accurate receipt, checks, and documentation
Manage finished goods despatch, ensuring orders are picked, loaded, and dispatched on time and in full
Book transport slots and coordinate schedules with hauliers and transport providers
Maintain clear and effective communication with hauliers regarding delivery and collection requirements
Oversee freezer movements, ensuring stock is managed efficiently and safely
Ensure all associated paperwork and system transactions are completed accurately and on time
Monitor operational performance and address issues to maintain service levels
Ensure compliance with health & safety, quality, and company procedures

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

Strong understanding of warehouse and despatch operations
Experience in supervising teams within a logistics or manufacturing environment
Knowledge of stock control processes and inventory management
Familiarity with transport coordination and haulier communication
Good IT skills, including warehouse systems and Microsoft Office
Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to prioritise tasks
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to problem-solve and make decisions in a fast-paced environment
Good understanding of health & safety requirements within a warehouse setting
Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

DESIRABLE:

Previous experience in a supervisory or team leader role within despatch or logistics
Experience working in a temperature-controlled or food production environment
Knowledge of transport regulations and compliance requirements
Experience using ERP or warehouse management systems (WMS)
Exposure to continuous improvement or lean practices
Forklift or other MHE (Material Handling Equipment) licences
Experience working with KPIs and performance management tools

Shift patterns in the despatch team are 4 days on, 4 days off. Positions are available on 6AM-6PM schedule.
