CandLE is a not‑for‑profit educational organisation providing specialist teaching and learning services for students with special educational needs. We work across a wide range of settings nationally, supporting learners in schools, colleges, and education other than at school environments.
Our work centres on ensuring that curriculum and learning opportunities are fully accessible to all students, with a particular focus on supporting those who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). As part of multidisciplinary teams, we use adaptive teaching strategies to help students overcome barriers to learning and unlock their full potential.
We provide advice, training, and direct support to students, families, local authorities, and schools, ensuring that every learner receives the personalised support they need to thrive.
We are looking for an Education Specialist to support students across the Taunton area.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Plan, deliver, and evaluate personalised learning programmes that meet the diverse needs of students with SEND.
- Adapt curriculum content, teaching strategies, and resources to ensure accessibility for all learners, including those using AAC.
- Use evidence‑based approaches to remove barriers to learning and promote independence.
- Assess student progress using a range of formative and summative methods, ensuring accurate and meaningful reporting.
AAC and Inclusive Practice
- Support students who use AAC, ensuring communication systems are embedded throughout teaching and learning.
- Collaborate with speech and language therapists, technologists, and other professionals to optimise learning for students.
- Model best practice in communication rich, inclusive classroom environments.
Collaboration and Partnership Working
- Work as part of a interdisciplinary team, contributing to joint planning, problem‑solving, and review processes.
- Build strong relationships with families, schools, and local authorities to ensure consistent support for learners.
- Provide professional guidance, training, and modelling to staff in partner settings.
- Shows professional confidence in difficult situations and acts as a strong advocate for the student.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation in line with organisational and statutory requirements.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain specialist knowledge in SEND, AAC, and adaptive teaching.
- Uphold and promote the core ethos, values, and safeguarding standards of the organisation.
- Contribute to the development of high‑quality resources, training materials, and learning tools.
Person Specification
Essential
- Experience teaching students with SEND in mainstream or specialist settings.
- Strong understanding of adaptive teaching, inclusive practice, and personalised learning.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a range of professionals.
- Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and learner‑centred practice.
- Ability to travel to different settings as required.
Desirable
- Experience supporting students who use AAC.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Knowledge of assistive technology and communication access strategies.
- Experience delivering training or coaching to other professionals.
