Harrogate | Full time (part time possible) | 5 days per week including weekend working

Previous furniture sales experience is preferred for this position.

Smiths of Harrogate has been helping customers furnish their homes since 1906. Now celebrating 120 years and still family owned and managed, we have built our reputation on knowledgeable advice, excellent products and genuinely looking after our customers.

We're looking for a furniture sales advisor to join our established showroom team as the business continues to grow.

Our sales vacancies don't come along very often. We have a knowledgeable, long-serving team and we're looking for someone who shares their enthusiasm for furniture, enjoys working with customers and takes real pride in doing the job properly.

About Smiths

From our 30,000 sq ft showroom in the centre of Harrogate, we offer an extensive choice of quality upholstery, dining furniture, occasional furniture, beds and mattresses.

We work with many of the industry's leading manufacturers, including Himolla, Ercol, G Plan, Venjakob, Vispring, Harrison Spinks and Hypnos, and have long-standing relationships with many of our suppliers.

But products are only part of what makes Smiths different.

Our approach has always been based on knowledge rather than pressure. Customers are encouraged to take their time, ask questions and rely on our team to help them make the right choice for their home.

The role

You'll become a trusted point of contact for your customers, helping them through the whole buying process – from understanding what they're looking for and explaining different products and options, through to placing an accurate order and ensuring everything progresses smoothly.

You'll be expected to:

Welcome and advise customers in our showroom.
Understand their requirements and recommend appropriate products.
Develop excellent knowledge of our furniture, upholstery and bed ranges.
Explain product options, fabrics, finishes and specifications confidently.
Prepare quotations and accurately process customer orders.
Follow enquiries and quotations through appropriately.
Liaise with colleagues, suppliers and our warehouse and delivery teams.
Maintain contact with customers throughout their purchase where required.
Help maintain and merchandise our showroom and individual brand displays.
Take responsibility for providing the standard of service for which Smiths is known.

This isn't a scripted sales environment. We want our sales advisors to use their knowledge, personality and judgement to build relationships with customers and achieve strong sales results.

About you

Furniture sales experience is preferred.

You'll already understand that selling furniture is very different from many other areas of retail. Purchases are considered, specifications can be detailed and customers value someone who knows their products and can give them confidence in their decisions.

We're looking for someone who:

Ideally has previous experience selling furniture, upholstery and/or beds.
Is confident and personable without being overbearing.
Enjoys building relationships with customers.
Takes pride in providing excellent service.
Is commercially minded and motivated to achieve strong sales.
Has excellent attention to detail.
Is organised and comfortable following orders through from sale to delivery.
Enjoys learning about products and keeping their knowledge up to date.
Has an interest in furniture and interiors.
Is comfortable using IT systems for customer and order management.
Enjoys being part of a small team where everyone contributes.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys selling quality furniture and looking after customers.

What we offer

A basic salary of £27,500–£29,500 (based on full-time), depending on experience, plus an uncapped performance-related bonus offering genuine potential for strong overall earnings.

Working hours

Our showroom is open:

Monday–Saturday: 9.00am–5.30pm
Sunday: 10.30am–4.30pm

This is a full-time position working five days out of seven, including at least one weekend day. Part-time will also be considered. Working days will be agreed with the successful candidate.
