John Beaty Transport Ltd is a well-established and growing bulk haulage company based in Penrith, Cumbria. As part of our continued expansion, we are looking to recruit a Transport Planner Trainee to join our planning team.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a genuine interest in the transport and logistics industry who is looking to build a long-term career within transport planning. Over a two-year development programme, the successful candidate will receive training, mentoring and hands-on experience across all aspects of fleet operations, with the aim of progressing into a Transport Planner within the business.
No previous transport planning experience is required, although experience within the transport or logistics sector would be advantageous.
About the Role
Working alongside our experienced planning team, you will be involved in the day-to-day operation of the business, gaining valuable experience and developing the practical skills required to become a Transport Planner.
Typical Duties Will Include:
- Answering telephone calls from customers and drivers.
- Entering and managing customer transport orders using company software systems.
- Assisting the planning team with day-to-day operational queries.
- Monitoring and updating transport management systems.
- Liaising with customers to ensure excellent service levels.
- Supporting the planning team with vehicle and driver scheduling activities.
- Working closely with drivers, customers and workshop staff.
- Providing occasional driving cover when required.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a genuine interest in transport, logistics and the bulk haulage industry.
- Is keen to build a long-term career in transport planning.
- Is computer literate and confident using software systems.
- Has a good understanding of technology and the ability to learn new software systems quickly.
- Has good communication and organisational skills.
- Is willing to learn and develop through practical, hands-on experience.
- Works well both independently and as part of a team.
- Can work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
Desirable (but Not Essential)
- Previous experience within transport, logistics, administration or customer service.
- A Class 1 (C+E) HGV licence.
Whilst a Class 1 licence is not essential, the successful applicant must be willing to undertake training to obtain their Class 1 HGV licence as part of their career development.
