Rapidly growing £30m t/o family-owned business with an outstanding track record for Customer Service. Office based.
As the Head of Transport, you will be responsible for managing a team of 30 staff, which involves both the engagement and development of these people. Your core objectives will be strengthening the transport department.
The Role:
- Your leadership and planning skills will ensure that you are able to coach and develop your team to deliver results - ensuring all vehicles and orders are managed and moved efficiently.
- You will lead a large team by setting direction, monitoring, and motivating individuals to exceed objectives whilst ensuring that security, inventory management and safety standards are maintained.
- We are looking for strategic individuals who can drive continuous improvement in productivity, operating costs, and customer satisfaction.
- The ideal candidates will be experienced leaders and people managers with the ability to motivate and drive performance.
- You will also possess good knowledge of food service operations with an ambient, chilled and frozen range of products.
- You will need a good understanding of warehousing operations, transport and distribution including couriers and 3rd party transport logistics.
- The primary objective of this is to ensure accurate order despatch and delivery to retail and food service outlet customers in a timely, cost effective and efficient manner.
- Utilising and improving the companies bespoke transport routing system.
- Excellent cost control and budgetary management will be critical to success so you must already be very familiar with compiling and managing budgets and forecasts.
Key responsibilities
- Managing processes, budgets and people.
- Supporting the planning process and ensure key performance indicators (KPIs) are in place and production targets are met.
- Having a keen eye on budgets and budgetary changes.
- Communicating changes to relevant departments.
- Ensuring that health and safety regulations are followed and updated.
- Documenting procedures for third-party monitoring.
- Creating and monitoring projects and teams.
- Reviewing workloads and manpower to ensure targets are met.
- Supporting the Operations and CEO Directors.
- Ensuring staff working on processes are happy and operating efficiently.
- Supporting all functions of the business to work together.
The Ideal Candidate:
- To succeed in this role, you will be a credible, highly communicative professional who has worked in a similar role and is used to being part of the Senior Leadership team
- You will have previously managed a transport team with significant experience of managing first line managers/supervisors/team leaders, within a transport and distribution sector.
- You should have proven people management skills including team building and development, maximising performance, improving motivation and productivity.
- You will be comfortable interacting with senior internal and external contacts.
- Excellent analytical skills, able to resolve complex problems through the identification of long-term solutions covering IT/process change.
- The capability to facilitate and drive continuous improvement projects across the department.
