Sumac Precision Engineering is offering an exciting opportunity to join our 4-year Apprenticeship
Programme, designed to develop new technical skills while working toward nationally recognised
qualifications in a high-performing engineering environment.
This opportunity is ideal for motivated individuals looking to begin a career in Precision Engineering,
with options available in Machining, Fabrication & Welding, or Inspection & Quality. The programme
is open to applicants of all ages (training duration may vary depending on age and prior
qualifications).
Apprenticeship Pathways:
Option 1: Machining
- Training in both manual and CNC machining operations
- Use of industry-standard machine tools and programming software
- Practical skills development in tooling, precision measuring, and part setup
- Involvement in fitting and assembly work
Option 2: Fabrication & Welding
- Training in a range of fabrication and welding techniques (MIG, TIG, etc.)
- Understanding weld procedures, materials, and visual inspection
- Practical involvement in cutting, forming, and structural assembly
- Participation in fitting and assembly processes
Option 3: Inspection & Quality
- Hands-on training in dimensional and visual inspection of machined/fabricated parts
- Use of precision measuring equipment (Micrometers, Verniers, Height Gauges, etc.)
- Introduction to FAIRs, non-conformance reporting, and quality control standards
- Exposure to AS9100 and ISO 9001 compliance requirements
What We’re Looking For:
- A strong interest in engineering and problem-solving
- Good attention to detail and a willingness to learn
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- GCSEs in Maths, English, and a Science or Technical subject (preferred)

Minimum of 39 hours per week
Core working hours are 8 am to 4 pm Monday to Thursday and 8 am to 1 pm Friday (including
