Job Title: Apprentice Early Years Practitioner (16 to 19 years old)
Location: Kool Kidz Nursery
Start date: 31st August 2026
Purpose of the Job:
To work as a member of a team to deliver a service which meets the needs of all children using the service, and develop a purposeful relationship with parents/carers.
To build a portfolio of evidence showing competence in performance and which demonstrates knowledge and understanding to meet the required standards of SVQ 3 Social Services (Children and Young People) : Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship (SCQF Level 7).
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement suitable programmes, activities and experiences for all children to enable learning through play and develop appropriate learning experiences
- Develop the Early Years curriculum to ensure compliance with national and local targets for learning
- Observe, record and report on the development of children
- Support the provision of advice and guidance to parents/carers to ensure the best outcome for their child
- Ensure all children are happy, healthy and achieving to their full potential within a safe environment
- Work in partnership with parents/carers, staff and other professionals from a variety of disciplines
- Actively participate in issues related to planning, raising achievement and professional development reviews
- Evaluate the quality of the service being provided to contribute to the nursery’s improvement planning
- Undertake training and learning in order to achieve the SVQ 3 Social Services (Children and Young People): Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship (SCQF Level 7)
Knowledge Skills and Experiences:
You must have at least three qualifications selected from the following:
- Standard Grades at Credit level
and/or
- National 5 Qualifications
and/or
One of your qualifications must be in English or Core Skills Communication SCQF Level 5
The apprentice will be required to
- Adhere to national and local guidance
- Demonstrate a commitment to inclusion, caring for and protecting children and implement Child Protection procedures
- Participate in professional learning as a key to updating knowledge and improving practice
- Respect confidentiality at all times
- Maintain written and online records; prepare reports and other appropriate documentation, which may on occasion be made available to relevant agencies.
- Act in a professional manner at all times
This job requires contact with vulnerable groups and therefore membership of the PVG scheme or successful application for membership is required prior to formal offer of employment. Photographic ID is required as part of this process.
