We’re Macplants Garden Centre – a specialist plant nursery in East Lothian, supplying thousands of plants to gardeners, landscapers, and trade customers across Scotland.
We’re passionate about proper plants, proper advice, and building a team of knowledgeable people who genuinely care about horticulture.
We’re looking for a weekend shop assistant to join our retail team — someone with strong plant knowledge who enjoys helping customers and takes pride in maintaining an exceptional retail environment.
The Role
You’ll work primarily within our retail shop and plant sales areas, helping customers choose the right plants while ensuring the nursery looks its best at all times.
This is a customer-facing role ideal for someone who already has horticultural experience and enjoys sharing their knowledge with others.
Day-to-day, you’ll get stuck into:
Assisting customers with plant advice and recommendations
Maintaining high standards across the retail plant displays
Watering and caring for plants in the sales areas
Labelling, pricing, and merchandising stock
Supporting with deliveries and restocking benches
Keeping the shop and nursery areas clean, tidy, and well presented
Helping customers load plants and purchases into vehicles
Working as part of a friendly, fast-paced retail team
Who We’re Looking For
- Strong plant knowledge is essential
- Previous garden centre, nursery, or horticultural experience preferred
- Horticultural qualifications (NC / HNC / RHS / equivalent) highly desirable
- You enjoy speaking with customers and giving advice
- You’re reliable, hardworking, and proactive
- You take pride in presentation and attention to detail
- You’re comfortable working outdoors in all weather
Pay & Hours
£15.00 per hour
16 hours per week
Saturday and Sunday role
Permanent position
Based at our nursery in East Lothian

- Tranent EH34 5BA: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
