Job description

Help shape one of the UKs most significant cyber security reforms.

We are recruiting a Grade 7 Senior Policy Adviser to lead work on Designated Critical Suppliers within the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill. This is a high-profile, fast-paced and politically dynamic role where your work will directly influence the UKs approach to managing systemic cyber risks.

You will join a high-performing and collaborative team at the centre of the governments cyber security agenda. This role offers the opportunity to influence policy with real-world impact, working on legislation that will shape the UKs resilience for years to come.

Person specification

You will operate in a complex regulatory landscape, tackling challenging and often novel policy questions. The role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with Ministers, regulators and senior stakeholders, supporting the passage of legislation through Parliament and shaping how it is implemented in practice.

You will:

Lead the development of policy on designated critical suppliers, including shaping the governments approach to managing cyber risks in critical supply chains
Provide clear, high-quality advice to Ministers and senior officials, including briefings for Parliamentary debates and scrutiny
Navigate complex and fast-moving Parliamentary processes, ensuring effective handling of legislation through its passage
Provide leadership and direction to regulators, supporting alignment on policy intent and implementation
Build strong relationships across government, industry and regulators to resolve complex and sensitive policy issues
Analyse complex technical and regulatory evidence, translating this into clear, actionable policy recommendations
Deliver work at pace, maintaining quality in a high-pressure and evolving environment

As a line manager, you will be responsible for working with your members of staff to define their objectives, as well as managing their development and performance.

Essential Criteria

We are looking for someone who can operate confidently in a complex and high-profile policy environment. You will demonstrate:

Strong policy development skills, ideally in a regulatory, cyber security or supply chain context
Excellent analytical judgement, with the ability to cut through complexity and provide clear recommendations
Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including experience influencing senior leaders
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including drafting for Ministerial audiences
The ability to prioritise effectively and deliver high-quality work at pace
A good understanding of regulatory frameworks, or the ability to develop this rapidly

Desirable Criteria

Experience working on legislation or Parliamentary handling
Experience working with regulators or in a regulated sector
Knowledge of cyber security or critical infrastructure policy
