The Role
As Assistant Head of Engineering, you will support the Head of Engineering in the day‑to‑day running of the workshop. You will help manage the engineering team, maintain the kart fleet to high standards, and ensure smooth, safe operations across the venue.
You will also step in to lead the department in the absence of the Head of Engineering, making this an ideal role for someone looking to progress into a senior engineering position.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Fleet Operations
- Support the maintenance and performance of the kart fleet to high safety standards
- Carry out servicing, repairs, and preventative maintenance
- Ensure vehicles are available, reliable, and race‑ready
- Complete and maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
Workshop & Stock Control
- Assist with parts ordering, stock management, and workshop organisation
- Support planning of maintenance schedules and workload
- Ensure tools, equipment, and workshop areas are kept clean and organised
People & Team Support
- Support the supervision and day‑to‑day direction of the engineering team
- Allocate tasks and ensure work is completed to required standards
- Deputise for the Head of Engineering when required
- Promote a positive, safety‑focused team culture
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all health & safety procedures and company policies
- Ensure safe use of tools, equipment, and machinery
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation within the workshop
- Support safe and smooth delivery of all on‑track activity
What We’re Looking For
- Strong mechanical experience (essential)
- Previous experience in a workshop or engineering environment
- A team player with leadership potential or supervisory experience
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Confident communicator, able to work with different departments
- Problem‑solving mindset and ability to work under pressure
- Willingness to own tools (or acquire required tools)
- Basic understanding of stock control or cost awareness (training provided)
- Must own tools (or be willing to acquire required ones)
