JOB BAND: C
CONTRACT TYPE: 2 X Permanent / Continuing
DEPARTMENT: BBC Drama Productions - EastEnders
LOCATION: BBC Elstree, Borehamwood – Hybrid, minimum 3 days in the office.
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: DOE + London Weighting at £5,441 - depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

You’ll manage complex scripts across multiple episodes, collaborate with writers, and bring editorial flair to one of Britain’s most iconic dramas. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
Advise on all script-related matters, managing relationships between writers and production staff, and ensuring writers have access to editorial briefs and necessary expertise.
Balance creative and production needs, representing the writer’s interests while ensuring their consent to major script changes and advocating for them in their absence.
Generate creative solutions and long-term story ideas, ensuring scripts are editorially sound and resolving any policy concerns with the Script Producer.
Conduct legal and editorial checks during script preparation, including brand, copyright, libel, and defamation reviews to ensure compliance.
Monitor episode filming, remaining available to address dialogue or story concerns as they arise on set.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
Proven experience as a Script Editor on TV drama series - Soap, higher-end continuing dramas like Death in Paradise or Waterloo Road or HETV with extensive knowledge and passion for EastEnders.
Strong track record of working effectively with both new and experienced writers under pressure and to tight deadlines.
Experience of confidently building relationships, communicating and negotiating with multiple departments
In-depth knowledge of EastEnders storylines and characters.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
Solid understanding of copyright law, Writers Guild agreements, and contracts, with awareness of their legal implications for production processes.
Conscious of the financial impact of editorial decisions, ensuring choices align with both creative and budgetary considerations.
